How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3176818 / 285901 Counterbalance Spring Kit

I replaced the Counterbalance Spring, all 6 of the Suspension Pads, and the Ring Balancer. I also replaced the Agitator Dogs and Thrust Space Washer because they were very worn. It works like a charm now!!! 

I watched some repair videos on YouTube to look for a possible cure. Both of them showed that you had to dismantle the washer cabinet to get to the spring causing the problem. I had enough room and found it much easier to just tip the washer at about a 45 degree angle and lean it against the dryer to put the spring in from the bottom. And much quicker also ! I used to work for General Electric fixing their washers and dryers and such, and this was one of the easiest fixes I have ever done! 

I took off the cabinet to get to the springs. Then took off the old ones and put on the new ones. It was very easy to fix and I am 16 and I did it by myself 

Inspected and fund a broken spring laying under the unit. come to find out it is a "counter balance" spring... go figure. the hardest part of the repair was moving the washer around, in order to locate the model number. once we found that, it was all down hill from there. I have used APP.COM for years, and never had a problem. very easy to navigate, fair pricing, and FAST shipping. the part arrived in 2 days, and the repair was finished in a matter of minutes. the only difficulty was locating the correct place where the spring was to be mounted. 

I worked on our dryer and our washer and I have more parts coming. The dryer needed a door switch and the washer needed the suspension springs replaced. I was able to fix them by taking them apart and listening to the appliance and my gut. 

I replaced all the springs, the counterbalance was missing I also replaced the tub suspension pads it was very easy to do after watching the help videos 

Replaced the three suspension springs and the counterbalance spring and the tub suspension pads. After that it ran great with no shaking. Repair took about two hours. I also replaced agitator dogs as I found they were broken and the upper agitator was loose and not working. All parts were genuine Whirlpool parts in original unopened package. 

Replaced spring. 

Replaced the agitator dogs. I followed your instructions and was perfect thank you. 

I removed the outside case then attached a new balance spring.
