How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6012294 / WP8269209 Door Switch

Ordered the new fuse kit and door switch. I researched it online and determined these were the parts I needed. Appliance Parts Pros made the repair super easy with part schematics and installation videos. It fixed the problem and the dishwasher works great! 

Replaced handle spring, switch and handle. Corner of handle was broken and spring was missing. 

Dishwasher finished it's usual cleaning cycle and suddenly stopped working all together. No sign of life whatsoever on the control panel. After doing a few YouTube searches and studying the troubleshooting guide that is stored on the unit under the kick plate the diagnosis led to the push-button control panel. The panel itself and the flex cable that leads from it to the control board are made of a "poly-flex" flexible circuit material. The poly-flex I/O cable attachment was not connectorized and appeared to be simply glued to the main push button control panel poly-flex. This bond failed and the connection let go entirely as evidenced by the detachment of the flex cable that leads to the control board. What a terrible design for a cable connection, and an easily preventable failure mode!! Door switch and latch were also worn so I replaced those too while I was in there. I ordered replacement parts through Appliance Parts Pros and had them the next day - excellent order fulfillment experience and reasonable prices compared to competitor offerings. 

Continuity testing showed both the switch and the fuse were bad. Replaced both. During installation of the fuse, the plastic protector came off after I had clipped the fuse on the frame. In trying to remove the fuse to replace the plastic the clip broke off. The dishwasher runs fine now but I have to reorder the fuse assembly so it will be clipped to the frame correctly 

Ordered new air vent, and replaced it. Works fine now. Watching video on You Tube helped. Removing the round vent inside the door was difficult. Had to tap with hammer to break it loose. 

I replaced door switch, handle and spring. Watch video on website, Very easy repair, extended life of dishwasher again. 

I ordered 2 switches and replaced them in less than a half hour. The dishwasher was not sensing right and it seemed like it took twice as long to heat the water on sani rinse. As a result it ran better than new and seemed to be a lot dryer at the end of cycle. Very impressed as it is 13 years old and has had no problems until then. 

Replaced it 

Replaced the control panel because most of the mounting "stanchions" were broken off and the latch didn't always catch. Also replaced the two micro switches as a precaution. So far, the machine has worked flawlessly for several cycles. 

House breaker was not the problem. Read various related issues on Appliance Parts Pros and checked the resistance of the thermal fuse with a meter. Also checked the door switch. Bought both and the thermal fuse was the problem even though the door switch checked as faulty. Since it was inexpensive I kept it thinking it will go next on my 8 year old washer. Have already replaced the main board last year as well through Appliance pros.
