The Door Switch is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It plays a crucial role in ensuring the dishwasher operates only when the door is securely closed. The switch signals the control board that the door is shut, allowing the wash cycle to begin safely.

You should replace the door switch if it becomes faulty or damaged. Causes of a bad door switch can include wear and tear from regular use, electrical issues, or physical damage from forceful closing of the door.

Symptoms of a bad door switch include:

  • The dishwasher not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Error codes related to the door latch or door switch
  • The dishwasher operating with the door open (safety issue)
  • No response when pressing the start button

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Door Switch (Part Number: OEM18036891)

Oliver Street for Model Number KUDS01ILBL1

Whirlpool 8269209 door switch is Microswitch V7 series V7-1C29E94 this is same as V7-1C27E9 which sells at electronics distributos for around $3.00 in single piece quantity and around $1.50 at 250 piece quantity. The differences are the trailing 4 refers to custom marking, and the 9 vs 7 is the same product with a European ENEC (European Norms Electrical Certification) rating. Since the switch is UL listed and used for a North American product, and the custom marking omits the ENEC marking any dual listing for EU safety rating is of no value. Save everyone a boatload of money and just buy the switch through the electronic parts distribution chain.

Dan, The switches are tested for continuity. There is a small red button on the switch that should change the reading from open to closed or vice versa. If the switch changes state when the button depressed it is a good switch.

Tom, You will want to make sure that the unit is filling with water to the proper level. If this is not happening then the spray arms will not spin.

Kevin, more than likely either the door latch [WPW10404412] is not engaging the microswitches in the latch properly, or the switches [WP8269209] are worn out and intermittently engaging. The switches can be tested for continuity and should be tested a few times to ensure that the issue is intermittent.

Hello Morgan, You will need to test the thermal fuse W10258275 with an ohm meter. If it is open, you will need to check for any item in the unit that can draw excessive current such as the motor windings, the heating circuit, or any loose connection. When the thermal fuse kit is installed, be sure to install the wiring that comes with it since the manufacturer has identified the previous style of connection for the thermal fuse has caused this condition.

Rich, The door switch should not cause the door to pop open during the wash cycle and would most likely have to do with a strike adjustment or a faulty latch that was received.

Waylin, No we wouldn't expect the door switches to be the issue. The more likely problem is a circuit failure in the key pad matrix. You'll most likely need a new control panel assembly W10811151 / W10811151 to resolve the problem.
