How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6011240 / WP74011242 Infinite Switch (Surface Element Control)

I looked up the parts on appliancepartspros.com, made the order, and was amazed how fast the parts arrived! I was able to watch their repair video and it showed me how to change it step by step. 

The hardest part was identifying the proper switch to order. The switch arrived in two days and was a little larger than the original, but fit.. I disconnected power cable because there was not enough slack to lift the cooktop above the counter. I removed the screws holding on the ceramic top and the screws holding the switch bracket. I photographed the connections to the switch. The terminals on the new switch were labeled but in different places than on the original. Pushed the connectors on the terminals and buttoned everything up. Works like new.

I ordered a new Switch, Infinite. I selected one day service since we really wanted the cooktop fixed right away. The part arrived the next day and was the exact same switch I needed. The repair was very easy once I unhooked everything and lifted the unit out. I did take too many of the screws out since I wasn't sure which screws held the top on, but on assembly all the screws were used and the cooktop is back working as before.
