How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6009390 / WP4449751 Range High-Limit Thermostat

I replaced all three thermal fuses even though I believe two of them were okay. It was easy. All I had to do was extract the double oven from the wall (that was the hardest part). I put it on some cardboard to protect my floor. Then I took off three panels with about 40 screws. There was one fuse on the back of each oven and other up by the motherboard. The parts took about 5 minutes to replace and another hour to put it all together again. Easy and I am not a mechanic. Saved me much money. 

Between YouTube, a multimeter and Appliance Parts Pro I was able to diagnose the problem and fix the oven without an expensive service call. 

After pulling the double oven out of the wall and disassembling the back to test the upper and lower thermostats (which I found to be working properly) I replaced the thermal fuse behind the display. It was inconvenient to pull the whole unit but there was no other way to be sure they were ok before the arrival of the thermal fuse. After a bit of internet research, I found that blowing the thermal fuse during self-cleaning is a common problem with KitchenAid/Whirlpool ovens (but there is strangely no mention of it in the owner’s manual). 

Installed new thermostat seems to be good now. 

Removed oven out of cabinet. Unscrewed plates. Replaced fuse. 

Not my first rodeo with this oven model installed new 2013. After running 1st self-cleaning about 6 months in. The bugger went dead. Both (WPW10545255 & WP4449751) are on the same circuit. Used to just replace which ever went bad, unfortunately, they do not necessarily malfunction at the same time. So I now find it easier to just replace them both while the oven has been removed from the cabinet. Since they are not in the same location, you will still need to remove the back pannel to check the resistance on the Thermostat-Fix. If it is in parameters then you have a spare. The real work is removing the unit to access the items.

Whirlpool in cabinet oven (WOS51EC0AS00). Lost power during self-cleaning. This is apparently common. It is an in-cabinet model so the fact that the door lock activated was the hardest to overcome -- cannot access screws to remove from cabinet with door locked. The only help I found was "use a coat hanger". I had no idea where the locking hook was though, but in the end I just inserted a coat hanger (a straight wire with an L bend with just less than an inch). Insert the wire at the top RIGHT side of the door, turn the L bend downward and slide the wire toward the left. The hook is in the middle and I actually got it on my first try! The control panel came on, the door lock unlatched, and I was able to turn on the oven, but the heat never came on. Replaced the Thermostat fuse on the rear of the oven...worked like a charm.
