How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6017910 / WPW10253483 Door Latch Assembly

Read Manuel did diagnostic test found that it was the door latch system. Called repair man who charged me $85 to tell me that it was the same thing and that didn't include the part ($117+ shipping) and labor. Couldn't believe so looked on line for part found your website which not only had the part $69 but had video on how to change it. Saved me a lot of time and money. Mahalo 

I saw a number of videos on how to so this but only one that almost matched my machine. My replacement latch had a black button. What I did was to remove the metal ring with the spring that holds the big rubber gasket and pry the gasket away from the area of the latch. Unscrewed the old latch and disconnected the three wires that were plugged into it.Then came the hard part. The wires on the harness are VERY short and it was very difficult to connect to the new latch. Took a bit but finally got them all plugged in and screwed the latch back on and put the wire ring back on the gasket. 

Ran the diagnostic function on the washer, it showed error codes to be the switch, watched the video, got the part installed in about 20 mins. Problem fixed, washer is working great. 

Removed and replaced the door switch. Best service I just watched their video on it and it was a snap ordering was no problem. Very easy got the switch and plunger when they said with no delays . Very good service I will come back if I need more parts with out hesitation thanks. 

I originally thought it was the door latch because it was broken so I replaced that. After replacing that it still didn't work. Apparently the electronic lock had malfunctioned breaking the latch. After both were replaced all was golden. Now to catch up and two weeks of laundry for a family of five. I'm pretty handy being in the construction industry but the wire ring holding the rubber boot gave me a fit. That's my next repair btw. I notices when I pulled it off the boot had holes in it. 

After chat with your tech, she determined what error code indicated. Advised of part required with link to do it yourself video. Piece of cake. Probably saved me a $300 repair bill. 

Replacing the Door Latch Assembly seems to have fixed the problem. The washer would sometimes stop in the middle of a wash cycle and the door would be locked. In that situation, I would have to release the latch manually by removing the bottom panel and locating the manual release tab on the latch assembly. From that point, however, the machine would only respond with three beeps when pressing the start button, and the machine would not start a wash cycle. If you played with it enough, unplugging the washer and then plugging it back in after a minute, it might start working again, but I finally deduced that the door closed switch seemed to be flakey, because if I slammed the door firmly, it would start up. But that still didn't assure that it would finish the cycle. Since installing the new assembly, it has worked reliably. 

I googled the problem for my Maytag washer. The video made the repair look pretty simple so I bought the part online by following the provided link. It was not too difficult for me. Removing the metal band that secures the rubber gasket was simple. Putting it back on after switching out the door lock was a little trickier but went on after a few attempts. I think the hardest step might have been reaching down behind the washer to unplug it! 

First I went to Appliance parts on Mohawk Ln in Phoenix, AZ. They would honor the web site price. Wanted to charge almost double for it. Never go there again. Once I got the part from AppliancePartsPros.com. I looked up video on how to get door seal open to access latch. Pretty easy except getting the ring back on was a little difficult. Works good now. 

The error code made it pretty easy to diagnose the issue. It had been acting up for a month or two prior. Finally, the door lock would not engage (you could hear the ‘clunk’ when that happened properly) Watched a great video that AppliancePartsPros.com had and was able to change the switch out in just 20 minutes. I found another issue that I fixed as well when the lower cover was off. A wiring harness had come loose from its strap and was running on the base of the washer. During the agitation and spin cycle I could see it running. Eventually, that would have caused a serious problem. Reattached with zip tie and all was good.
