How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6006067 / WP2188819 Thermistor

Replaced both thermistors. Only the freezer side was bad, but since I had to remove the housing for the thermistor on the fridge side to replace the freezer thermistor I replaced both as a PM move. Works perfectly now. The video for this repair nails it, so watch it if you need to make this repair. ALSO - it is important to check for icing in the defroster catch pan and on the floor of the freezer. My pan was frozen solid with ice on the radiator, and a sheet of ice on the floor. The pan has a drain to the evaporation tray underneath the unit, and the drain was frozen solid, which caused the overflow. It is located at the bottom rear of the freezer behind the grill. I used a heat gun on low to loosen it up then just kept dumping hot water on the catch pan and poked a straightened-out coat hanger into the hole until it cleared. A bit messy but it worked. This took longer then the thermistor replacements! This repair covers many models of Whirlpool (and their Kenmore badge) and Maytag side-by-sides. The fridge was about ten years old when the part failed. Expect the ice-maker and its sensors to also fail around the same time.. It was an even easier repair when I replaced them In January. Replaced the freezer thermistor. The videos from Appliance Parts Pro were a big help in locating the part. 

Replaced air diffuser and freezer thermistor. 

Freezer was about -30 degrees, which seemed to make bottom meat drawer in refrigerator drawer also too cold (freezing meat). Refrigerator otherwise fine. Replaced BOTH thermistors as both are exposed when replacing one of them. After replacing both thermistors, freezer is now 0 degrees, refrigerator 37 degrees, per setting. Quick, cheap solution! Temperature Control Board is often cited as a common cause of this problem, but is no longer available. Thermistor replacement was a long shot, but cheap and quick. Best of all, it worked! Matt's videos have helped guide me through TWO repairs so far. Great stuff! Thank you!

I replaced the thermister 

Replaced the defrost thermostat and the freezer and fridge thermistors and now everything working like it should. Wasn't sure which of the three was faulty but since the parts were inexpensive it was easier to just replace all three at one time. 

First I replaced the main control panel, that did not solve the problem so I went to the next step and replaced the themistor in the freezer and fresh food section, I could tell as soon as I turned it on it sounded different ,has been working great since ! 

Called local repair man,told me all units are different?????Watched videos on thermistor replacement,decided to try repair myself,followed directions,defrosted coils with hair dryer,made sure drain was not frozen,installed thermistor on freezer/refrig.,turned on....third day since repair working correctly,easy fix 

Diagnostic check showed no problems. Blend door sounded like it was moving correctly. Measured the ohms of the thermister and it showed +15. Error code would only show if open or shorted. Added a resistor in series to make it read correct till the part arrived. Delivery was fast and installation was a breeze due to videos/instructions available. Hardest part was finding how to perform the diagnostic check and the ohm values for the thermister. Turn off the ice maker 30 minutes before pulling it or you may have water spilling out. I keep thermometers in both sections now. I would have noticed the temp drift a lot sooner. I found out when ice cream was rock hard, then it built up ice in the bottom from the drain freezing.
