Checked all the other components responsible for heat, including thermostat and thermal fuse. Everything checked out, so I figured it must be the timer. The timer was easy to install (10 minutes) and fixed the problem. Note that some videos recommend prying the front clips of the console to separate it from the dryer. I did that and managed to drop the clip into the dryer. Luckily I was able to retrieve it with a magnet and reattach it without too much trouble. But it would have been a lot easier just to leave the console attached to the dryer and remove the timer from behind, removing the console didn't really give me any more access than I had from behind anyway. Also note that the timer replacement is pretty pricey, I recommend you first consider disassembling the timer you have and see if you can just clean the internal contacts before dropping $140 for a new one.
