How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6016540 / WPW10185981 Timer Assembly

Purchased new timer & dryer is working like new again. 

Couldn't seem to get a response from any of my known appliance repair guys and had decided to just buy a new one. Then I decided to open up the back and see if it was maybe a loose wire or something obvious. This going totally against my #1 girl rule of not lifting the hood on my car if it breaks down! It appeared that there was one part that was the "brains" of the whole thing and it had a part number on it. I looked it up online and landed on this site. They had the part and it would ship the next day. So, I went for it. The repair took me less than 15 minutes! Dryer now works great! 

Replaced the switch. 

I replaced the timer, very easy with the on line tech. 

The fix went so much easier than I anticipated. Pull the knob, take 4 screws off the back panel and two screws to hold the timer. Pull the 6 wiring jacks which you can't screw up and put it back together. The dryer is running fine now. 

Ordered new timer from appliance parts and installed it under15 minutes. The dryer works like new. 

I originally changed the gas solenoid coils hoping that it would fix the problem but that did not work. After checking the circuit with a multimeter, I felt that the timer contacts were the problem. I replaced the timer and the dryer works fine now. 

Tested all the sensors and they seemed ok so replaced the timer 

Replaced the timer, the thermal fuse and the cycling thermostat. 

Replaced the valve coil, and the timer!!!
