How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6016544 / WPW10186032 Dryer Timer Control

Removed the old one and replaced it with the new one. 

After checking continuity of the thermal sensors, those were ruled out. Motor was working fine so that left the timer. Dryer is over 20 years old but we REALLY didn’t want to have to buy a new one. We ordered the timer here, it shipped the same day and was received in about five days. Installation was quick and easy and we are back in business with dryer working perfectly.

Did connectivity checks. Fuse, thermostats were fine. Gas ran fine on the occasions it was on - so no issue with igniter or coils. Timer connectivity failed. Easy to swap out timer - remove upper back panel, pull a few wires, swap timer, done. Works great now. 

Started by taking the back panel of the dryer off and checking continuity for multiple parts including thermal fuse. All parts had continuity. Then took front panel off and checked continuity on gas valve coils, igniter , etc. All had continuity. Next Released the belt and took out the drum. Next put gas back on and plugged in dryer and ran dryer to see if igniter would glow. The igniter would glow and ignite the gas for 10 seconds and turn off. If I moved timer at the same time the igniter would glow again and ignite the gas and shut down in 10 seconds. The motor never stopped and continued to operate. After this I took off top back panel where timer is housed and checked continuity on contacts A & C on the lower left wire connection. These failed on the multimeter. Timer was ordered and replaced and all worked. 

Installed a new timer. 

I replaced the timer assembly. It took about an hour in all. Not hard to do at all. Hardest part was removing the plugs from the old unit. 

Purchased a new Timer and replaced it. 

Bought a new one through this site. Came fast I had it installed in less than 5 minutes.
