How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5985208 / W10822278 Defrost Timer

Have an old Roper refrigerator. The refrigerator part would freeze liquid and food with water dripping from the freezer. We were going to buy a new one, $2000. Found this website, found my problem and found the recommended solution. I ordered the defrost bi-metal sensor and the defrost timer, $50 with shipping. Got the parts the next day. Watched the video on how to replace them. 30-45 minutes later, done and working great. Saved $1950 on buying a new one. Took longer to unload, and reload the freezer than it did to replace part! 

Ordered and replaced defrost timer and bimetal defrost switch. Defrosted the freezer coils. Got to timer on top of unit. Removed timer. NO instructions with new timer!! Ohmed new timer to figure what the loose timer wire tied to. Compared to schematic and decided on connecting it to 2 (pink). Put it all together along with the bimetal switch. Checked continuity of heaters. Seemed to be cooling properly but could not hang around for a defrost cycle. Will check again soon to see if the ice is building again. Took a few hours but was a satisfactory experience. 

Change the defrost timer which had burned up contacts. Well I had already taken it apart and determine the problem or at least what I thought the problem was, watching their video was helpful and I would suggest that anyone who is not earning a living as an appliance repair man check out the videos. 

Put defrost thermostat on and it worked fine. Repair video was almost perfect. I made repairs myself and it took about 30 minutes. Thank you AppliancePartsPros.com. Will definitely use you again. 

Replaced the defrost timer so that the evaporator would get de-iced. 

Watched the video provided within AppliancePartsPros.com web site, then was able to locate and access the timer, manual rotation with a screw driver then confirmed the defrost timer failure as the compressor then started up and cooled. I then ordered the new timer from AppliancePartsPros.com and successfully installed it following the simple instruction sheet and on-line video Great Service and support! 

Replaced part per instructions, working perfectly

Replaced defrost timer with a new one, and tested amperage on refrigerator to ensure defrost cycle working as intended.
