How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6027508 / W10894766 Timer

I read the tutorials for recommended fixes and thought the problem was a partially bad heater element, but I talked with one of the technicians there who thought that it might be the timer and gave me a test to perform to see if the timer was bad. The result was that the timer was bad. Got the part the next day and it took about 15 minutes to install and now dryer is working great. I was very pleased with the help and the part. 

After checking with a local parts dealer locally, I found that I could save 40$ ordering the timer I needed from Appliance Parts Pros. Even factoring in shipping cost. I received the part and realized right away that it was not the right one after comparison. I received assistance from Dixie in customer service on how to return the timer and Chris contacted me and confirmed a credit on my card which went smoothly. I went back to the Appliance Parts Pros site and received assistance on their chat line in identifying the correct timer (I left a letter out of the model number initially) and received the correct timer in a couple of days. The timer has 11 electrical connections. Before removing the old timer, I made a numerical diagram of the connections, then labeled the connected wires numerically with white cloth tape to be sure I reconnected the wires correctly to the new timer. Worked great! 

Low heat was not working on a specific cycle, but then I found that high heat was working on a different cycle so I knew it wasn’t the heating element, or the heating system. So I deduced that the only possible cause was the timer/selector knob. I ordered a timer switch, installed it, and it works thanks. 

Replaced the timer unit. 

Dryer would not heat up. Played with different settings on timer and got heat one time then no more after that, so I knew everything else worked, Replaced timer and heat came on as soon as I turned on the dryer. Problem solved. Shipping was Very fast, I liked that. 

Ran test with the help of YouTube and a borrowed ohm meter. My dryer was not heating after step by step video I determined my timer switch was bad. Ordered the part installed easy job probably saved me about 250 for service calls and parts markup! 

Watched the video and in less than 10 minutes had it working again. 

Replaced burner head on stove. Working now. Less than a minute to repair. Replaced timer control on dryer. (All other parts tested out ok) still need to test. 5 to 10 minutes to repair. 

I disconnected power source (unplugged it). I then used a continuity tester to test the limits and stats' and fuse. All were closed then I tested the heating element with an ohm meter all good I then traced the wires to the timer, tested for continuity. (turned timer dial to call for heat) between line and the heater wire found no continuity. I then removed and disassembled the timer found the contacts between the line and heater contact were burned and had melted the plastic guide post I cleaned and adjusted contacts. it worked for a short time, I decided it was wise to replace it rather than repeat repair of it. Great supplier. Delivery service less than satisfactory, paid for rush got it 3 days later. RG 

New heat coil. New thermostat, a new timer
