How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6022517 / WPW10512946 Dryer Drum Support Wheel Retainer

The lower roller and shaft was very worn after 8 yrs. I ordered a new shaft and replacement rollers. Since two rollers came with the kit, I replaced both the upper and lower roller. The only trouble I had was during reassembly and keeping the tensioner in place when fitting the door back on the drum. In addition, when the rollers were shipped, the packer cut the bottom of the plastic bag and one of the triangular retainers was missing as well as the locking washer for the shaft to keep the bracket in place. Luckily I had ordered an extra triangular retainer and I reused the old locking washer 

The front and rear support roller's and shaft were worn. They were making a lot of noise. I watched the video on how to take the dryer apart. I replaced ALL 4 support roller's and shaft's. I am very glad that you had the parts in stock. MAYTAG DIDN'T! 

I ordered the tension/idler arm assembly, 4 drum support wheels and 4 clips. I then watched the video on how to replace the items I ordered. It took me about 3.5 hours, longer than what the video said as it was a first time experience and the dryer in the video was not the exact model as mine. I did find out that I didn't need the extra clips as they came with the wheels, an extra $20.00 I didn't need to spend. That's the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. 

I replaced the tension roller and the drum rollers as they showed signs of wear. 

I took it apart and found that one of the drum support rollers had worn out. I ordered the parts after using the parts assembly drawing provided by AppliancePartsPros.com website. The parts were delivered quicker than expected. I also watched the short repair video that showed exactly how to get the machine apart and to reassemble it. I also replaced the drive belt while I had it apart. The dryer runs like a new one now. 

Replace support roller and clips. There is an access hole in dryer frame on back side. Just have to remove back panel. Just remove the whole shaft and roller assembly. 

After pulling the drum out I found that one of the drum rollers was broken. It was a simple repair. Of course it had to be one of the rear rollers. It just meant I had to remove the drum completely. All total it was about 1.5 hours of my time. Not too bad compared to the price of a service company or a new dryer. 

Seals on the exhaust were one issue that needed fixing since lint was found inside the cabinet. A roller that holds the drum in place had broken off. And, the drive belt was aged and needed to be replaced as a maintenance item. The only issue I had was with shipment. I ordered overnight shipping but got two crucial item two days later. No communication from AppliancePartsPros.com as to why this was late, though, I paid for faster shipping.

I replaced the rollers and felt seals. (Last year I replaced the heating element and thermostats, but that wasn't enough.) I found youtube videos to guide me. I used acetone to clean the drum where original adhesive got in the roller track. I used a 3-M scrubber (dry) to clean the drum of roller rubber. I used automotive grease on the roller shafts - just a little. (Glad to buy genuine Whirlpool rollers here.) I lubed the belt idler wheel and I replaced the belt for good measure. Installing and gluing the felt seal wasn't as easy as the video showed. I installed it first, then put that end of the drum down on an old rug. Then I applied the adhesive: pull the felt out and get the glue tip under, then go all the way around with a light application. They give you way too much glue. After the repair, the exhaust vent temperature reached 160 deg; I read somewhere that this is correct. I've got a new dryer!
