William D Phoenix , AZ November 15, 2021 Appliance: Model GE. JTP27BW1BB - DOUBLE OVENS Broken hinge assembly on one side of upper double ovens I always save original books and assembly sheets for appliances. That helped a lot ! The assembly sheets showed how the ovens went in, how they were attached to the cabinet and what to avoid so I didn’t bend trim piece. Original booklet showed how to replace oven doors and lights etc. Once the hinge assemblies arrived I started replacement after having read on the internet original hinges had some problems. So I had ordered both right and left hinges to avoid a possible problem with the second original hinge. Beginning the process I removed both upper and lower oven doors and all the racks and threw the breaker to disconnect the electricity. Then removed eight wood screws (4 in each oven) allowing the double ovens to be slid forward and exposing the hinges. Removed 4 screws for each hinge with 1/4 inch nut driver and by opening the hinge to the first stop (broiler position) I easily removed the good hinge. The broken hinge took some persuasion to hold in the broiler position for removal. I could have cut the spring or tried to remove it from the assembly if I had to to make it easier but that meant a trip to my shop so I just muscled it out. Four screws with nut driver attached each new hinge mechanism, slid ovens back into cabinet and attached ovens to cabinet with 8 wood screws. Replaced oven bulbs with new ones and cleaned glass bulb covers. Replaced racks, doors and trim piece on lower oven. Went to breaker box to flip circuit breaker. Reset clock. Total time 20-30 minutes start to finish. 3 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes
