William D Phoenix , AZ November 15, 2021 Appliance: Model GE. JTP27BW1BB - DOUBLE OVENS Broken hinge assembly on one side of upper double ovens I always save original books and assembly sheets for appliances. That helped a lot ! The assembly sheets showed how the ovens went in, how they were attached to the cabinet and what to avoid so I didn’t bend trim piece. Original booklet showed how to replace oven doors and lights etc. Once the hinge assemblies arrived I started replacement after having read on the internet original hinges had some problems. So I had ordered both right and left hinges to avoid a possible problem with the second original hinge. Beginning the process I removed both upper and lower oven doors and all the racks and threw the breaker to disconnect the electricity. Then removed eight wood screws (4 in each oven) allowing the double ovens to be slid forward and exposing the hinges. Removed 4 screws for each hinge with 1/4 inch nut driver and by opening the hinge to the first stop (broiler position) I easily removed the good hinge. The broken hinge took some persuasion to hold in the broiler position for removal. I could have cut the spring or tried to remove it from the assembly if I had to to make it easier but that meant a trip to my shop so I just muscled it out. Four screws with nut driver attached each new hinge mechanism, slid ovens back into cabinet and attached ovens to cabinet with 8 wood screws. Replaced oven bulbs with new ones and cleaned glass bulb covers. Replaced racks, doors and trim piece on lower oven. Went to breaker box to flip circuit breaker. Reset clock. Total time 20-30 minutes start to finish. Read More... 3 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Nut Drivers, Screwdrivers
Becky M Castle Rock , CO June 08, 2015 Appliance: Model GE JTP56BA2BB Hinges were broken on my top oven of the double oven Ordered part and watched video for repair. I would have paid a repairman $400.00 and I repaired it myself for the cost of the part. Love doing this kind of stuff! Gary P Berwyn , PA February 06, 2022 Appliance: Model GE 30" BUILT-IN PROFILE DOUBLE OVEN JTP55WOV2WW Broken oven hinges. 1. Pull electrical circuit breaker. 2. Remove door with a broken hinge(s) - the door is attached to the hinge via a slide mount (no screws or bolts) - open oven door at a 45-degree angle, grasp oven door with both hands and pull towards you - the door will slide out from the hinges (Caution: the door is heavy). I was replacing hinges on the upper oven so I used a ladder in this step. 3. Remove outside trim piece at bottom of the oven (grasp corner end of one side and push straight upwards until it pops off, repeat on the other side). 4. Using a screwdriver remove 8 screws that secure the oven to the mounting cabinet. (4 are located on inside of the upper oven, and 4 more on inside of the lower oven) 5. Pull the oven out about 6-8" from the cabinet. 6. Using ratchet wrench, remove 4 screws holding the hinge to the oven (2 inside the oven, 2 on the outside side of the oven – Hint: look at replacement part to see where the holes are and understand the location of the screws on the oven). 7. Wiggle the old hinge out (towards the back of the oven), remove, and then replace with a new one. Best to always replace both hinges (left and right) - If one is broken, a good chance the other is about to go. 8. Congratulations if you got to this step! The rest is self-explanatory.
