This blender is about 3 years old. The drive coupler was on very tight. Tapping it alone was not sufficient to loosen it so I had to pry it off with the screwdriver. The coupler has an aluminum frame but the coupler is threaded onto a steel shaft. So, prying didn't damage the threads on the steel shaft. Just be careful to not scratch the base of the blender itself.
