Installing the new thermal fuse worked to solve the problem! I had already guessed it might be the fuse because (1) the LEDs were a bit dim & flickery on the front panel, and (2) after the dishwasher cut out, I could open the door for a few minutes (sometimes waving it up and down to get cool air past it) and then it would re-start until the next 'hot' part of the cycle. Door switch kit ordered, but not needed this time. Love this website & the phone support, too!
