I have a Maytag dishwasher model number MDB8959SAS1. The problem is that when the door was closed it would not start the wash cycle. The control board was in bad shape although I don't necessarily think it was necessary to replace other than Aesthetics. With that being said I did replace touchpad controller. What I realized was that the lock mechanism and switch was not operating properly. There are two pieces of metal inside the switch that need to touch each other to let the unit know the door is closed. Every time the door was opened it would move the piece of metal inside of the switch out of position. My solution was to apply a small amount of instant glue to the base of the metal so it would not move. To date this seems to have worked flawlessly. You can order a whole new Switch and mechanism if it is needed possibly they updated the switch to make sure that the metal doesn't move in the switch.
