David W Waterford , MI November 22, 2014 Appliance: Whirlpool Dryer GEW9200LW0 Whirlpool Dryer Gew9200lw0: Sporadic mode problems unable to adjust times and temps. How to replace User Interface (Platinum). Based upon the symptoms, I determined that the User Interface was failing. Caution: Unplug the unit before working on it, and watch for sharp edges inside of the cabinet. To replace the module, I popped the top off the unit by removing the three 1/4" screws on the back edge, and then sliding the top panel backward until it cleared the guides that hold it in place. Note: Working by feel, I didn't even have to pull the unit away from the wall - just don't drop the screws. Also, the three screws on the back edge have a nylon washer, where all others will not, so be certain to reserve those for the back panel when reassembling. Once the top was off, I removed the three screws on the left side that held the Electronics Board Bracket in place. Under that bracket, there are two ribbon cables (P3 and P4) that needed to be disconnected from the PC board. Then there were two screws on either end of the black bracket at the top of the console that had to be removed in order to remove the control console itself. Once the bracket screws were out, pulling out and lifting on the lower edge of the console (just inside the dryer door) to freed up the tabs that hold it in place allowed the unit to be lifted off. Remove the knob from the front of the console. Once the console was removed, four more screws held the console bracket to the console unit. (Note the routing of the ribbon cables.) After removing the bracket, locate six tabs that hold the interface into the console and release them with a small screwdriver while gently prying the interface away from the console. (There may be some resistance where the dial connects to the console front. It eventually popped out, but with enough prying force that I was initially concerned, but it was fine.) Reverse the process and the project will be complete! 6 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes
