This cover is designed to prevent any debris from reaching the interior of the wheel or the axle. If a large amount of grass or clippings accumulate inside of the assembly, the machine will be almost impossible to move forward - whether self-propelled or manually operated. This cover prevents that from occurring and simply kicks it back in the direction it came. It does take a lot of wear and tear. Installing it is extremely easy and requires little more than a wrench. Even if the cover is aged, or broken, it will remove easily and take minutes to replace. Expect to replace this at least once over the average lifespan of a trimmer.
