The starter solenoid, also called a starter relay, is a low-amperage relay that completes the high-amperage connection between the starter motor and the battery when the ignition key is turned. The starter solenoid is needed to engage the starter motor. When the ignition is turned on, the battery sends a small electrical charge to the starter solenoid. The solenoid shuts a switch, so a more significant amount of current is sent to the starter motor. The starter motor shaft starts to rotate and engage the teeth of the flywheel. The flywheel then turns the crankshaft to put the engine in motion. A bad solenoid can deny the flow of electricity to the starter motor and prevent engine startup. However, other underlying problems may also exist. The battery may be in good condition, but the engine is not cranking, or clicking and grinding noises may come from the solenoid. These are signs that the starter solenoid should be replaced. This starter solenoid is for use in riding lawn tractors and zero-turn riding mowers. It is compatible with specific models from different brands, including Ariens, Craftsman, Dixon, Husqvarna, Hyper Tough, Jonsered, Murray, Poulan Pro, Redmax, and Snapper. It is a genuine OEM replacement part sourced directly from the manufacturer and is sold individually.
