Estate Thermal Fuse
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: W11707984

This is a thermal safety fuse that opens the circuit if temperatures rise beyond a safe limit, protecting the appliance from overheating and preventing further damage. Replacing a failed fuse restores power to the affected circuit once the underlying cause is addressed.

  • Monitors temperature in a protected circuit and cuts power if unsafe heat is detected
  • Helps prevent overheating-related damage
  • Typical failure signs: no power/no operation, cycle won't start, shuts off mid-cycle after overheating event
  • Must not be bypassed; replace if open and investigate the root cause of overheating
What's included: 1 thermal fuse Installation notes:
  • Unplug appliance or disconnect power before service
  • Verify the fuse is open with a multimeter; replace only after correcting any airflow/overheating issues
  • Install in the same orientation and location as the original to ensure proper temperature sensing
  • Handle wiring carefully; transfer connectors one at a time to avoid miswiring

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Door latch broke also causing the fuse to blow   James M. • Ocean View , NJ • April 28, 2017

It is difficult (if not impossible) to remove the electronic switches from the hard plastic latches. I replaced all three switches and both the upper and lower latches I also replaced the main 20 amp ceramic fuse which blew out when the latch/switches failed. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Microwave oven power was out; upon examing the internal found in line fuse was blown   Steven D. • La Habra , CA • February 27, 2015

In addition to blown fuse; the fuse holder was melted at one end. Checked the unit to see if any part or wiring that would cause the issue, none was visible. Referred to wiring diagram included inside to identify components, including interlocks. All seemed functional. Bought replacement 20A fuse. Fuse holder no longer available so bought similar unit with 25A rating - little retrofitting. Put unit back together, and it's working so far. Wife is happy. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Microwave wouldn't heat when you took item out after beep it was still cold! all other functions were fine   Jerad S. • Salem , IA • January 03, 2015

Removed unit from wall and took outer shell off, de-energized capacitor and then took a multi-meter and tested all the High voltage parts and magnetron. They tested out fine other than the diode and then I looked at the "Safety" circuit if you will the power loop that goes through door switches and thermostats to energize the High Voltage transformer and magnetron. Turns out the thermostat that is on the side of the magnetron wasn't closed, so I took a butane torch and heated it up past the... Read more
