Chris S Highland , CA February 15, 2016 Appliance: Frigidaire Refrigerator FGHB2869LF8 Ice maker evaporator would not defrost causing a large build up of ice in the evaporator housing Replaced evaporator heater and housing. Just make sure you also replace the thermostat. If not it is a little challenging to get the wires out of the old thermostat/ heater plug into the new plug. Also if you have the same problem be prepared to have a good heat gun to melt the ice buildup around the evaporator and drain hole. The ice build up was so bad that it destroyed the evaporator cover and was leaking into the refrigerator or should I say ice was forming below the evaporator cover into the refrigerator. Pw M Palos Heights , IL April 01, 2021 Appliance: Electrolux Refrigerator EW28BS85KS4 Ice build up in fresh food compartment rust on back of refrigerator in upper right hand corner I removed the fresh food ice maker found the drain tube for ice maker frozen. This was causing the back of the unit to rust out. This also caused the water to run down the back of the unit the into the duct work and into the freezer causing ice buildup. I then defrosted the freezer removed the rear duct work and the freezer drain pan cover. I found the freezer drain was not draining. I removed the exterior rear cardboard cover and located the freezer drain tube removed it and found that it was blocked by material that must have been there since the unit was manufactured and did not let the water to drain. Cleared blockage reinstalled drain. I installed the retro fit kit that I purchased that replaces original air handler part #AP6039735. This kit has a better seal and an improved defroster heater shield. So far so good. Ralph W Dothan , AL July 23, 2018 Appliance: Frigidaire Refrigerator FGHB2844LFC Cracked housing The ice maker in my Frigidaire has been temperamental for most of the time I have owned it. While defrosting it recently (I often have to use YouTube to figure out how to deconstruct it), I found the housing was cracked. This cracked housing is why I saw water dripping down the interior back wall of the frig. The drain was also blocked with a solid plug of ice. The replacement housing did not come with any of the seal stripping. I bought some from an auto-parts store. I melted the ice in the plugged drain, applied seals, install the new housing, and reassembled the ice maker. It took a little more than an hour.
