James M Natchitoches , LA July 26, 2015 Appliance: Model 253.74722405 Ice maker quit making ice was not getting water This was one of the easiest appliance repairs that I have ever done. I simply moved the refrigerator out of the cubby hole in which it resides, turned off the water supply at the wall, unplugged the electric cord, loosened the water supply line at the valve (had a water absorbent rag and small plastic bowl to catch what drained from the line), place it in the bowl and moved it aside. The valve was easily accessible and two screws detached it from the edge of the refrigerator box. Once loose, I disconnected the electrical connection. Here, it is wise to note which color wire is too which side. I made the mistake of not noting this, and the plug has the ability to be plugged into the valve in either direction, therefore had to unplug, turn it over and plug it back after I thought the job was complete. The plastic water line was removed from the relay, a simple hand turned nut was what secured it. As instructed in your video, I cut this off by moving the nut up the plastic pipe and sliced just above the flare in the line. This left enough to place into the new relay, without restricting placement. This is also another step where a water absorbent rag/paper towel is advised. The new relay pushed into the outgoing water line, but I never felt any type of "click" or change in resistance. This proved itself when it leaked lightly during the first water cycle. I removed it again and reasserted my push into the orrifice. Seems to have resolved the issue. Reattached the electric (wrong direction first time) and placed the two screws back Read More... 87 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Adjustable Wrench, Nut Drivers

Molly S Atlanta , GA August 18, 2017 Ice maker stopped working due to broken water tube & possibly water valve needed to be replaced I watched the provided short video on replacing the water valve - seemed pretty easy. I am a young woman and my husband was impressed that I fixed this all on my own. (I'm impressed at myself!) It really wasn't hard....loosen a few screws, shut off the water supply, re-attach the new piece, and presto...my freezer maker was working again. It took me longer to move my freezer away from the wall and unscrew the pieces to access the back panel than it did to actually fix the problem.
