Steve C Dripping Springs , TX September 30, 2019 Appliance: Model 253.78892010 Ice maker stopped making ice. Well, I got online and found several YouTube videos on how to check what was happening. I have a multimeter and tools. I first replaced the external water filter just to make sure it wasn't that, and it needed it. That wasn't the problem. I then removed the water inlet valve which was really easy. I didn't disconnect the water lines but I did unplug the power plug. Using the ohms setting on the meter, I tested the coil of the valve solenoid. It wasn't open. I checked the voltage at the plug with the AC voltage setting. It read 15 volts. I incorrectly assumed that was the voltage necessary to open the valve. So, I ordered a new valve. While I was waiting for it to arrive I did some more digging and found that the voltage at the valve during water demand should be pretty close to whatever line voltage is coming into the fridge (115v). So I had to keep digging. I found some forums that discussed how the voltage gets to the valve, etc. I pulled the cover off the ice maker to expose the gears of the motor and drive. I used my flat blade screwdriver to slightly turn the main gear of the motor and it started turning on its own, but kept stopping. I was able to, with a little force, make the main shaft go all the way through the ice cycle and I got it to dispense water, which told me the water valve was working. I checked the voltage coming into the icemaker and it was 115v. So I ordered a new ice maker unit. That took about 5 minutes to remove the old and reinstall the new. I let it get good and cold, and it has been cranking out ice cubes ever since. Michelle N Topeka , KS April 27, 2020 Appliance: Frigidaire Refrigerator FFHS2611LW7 Not making ice. My Frigidaire Refrigerator FFHS2611LW7 stopped making ice. The water dispenser was working fine. I tired a couple of things before changing out the ice maker. First I replaced the water filter. Did not fix. I replaced the water valve. It did not fix the issue but the dispenser water pressure was better so I think that may have been part of the issue. That part was extremely easy to fix utilizing the part and video provided by Appliance Parts Pros along with the live chat. I chatted again and it was determined that the ice maker assembly itself was pretty much all it could be. I ordered it and it was received the next day!!!! It took less than 15 minutes to remove the old ice maker and install the new one and that is the truth! I am fairly handy but all that was required for my model was the loosening of the screws that hold the unit on and the unplugging of the electrical fitting. It was unbelievably easy. My advice is to be patient, it will take some time for it to fill and drop the first batch of ice. Leave it alone for a bit before you panic and assume that it's not working (like I did....) The water valve replacement also took under 30 minutes to replace and the part also arrived within 2 days!!! I highly suggest live chatting and utilizing the videos. I would have spent more time mucking things up on the water valve had I not used the video!!. You absolutely will be able to repair your own appliance, saving yourself time and the cost of a service call. At this time we are in the middle of a pandemic and the option of having a service person in my home did not exist. I will ALWAYS go to AppliacePartsPros before calling a service person to fix something. 50 stars for this company. And you can live chat and get excellent advice without purchasing anything, they truly are there to help and if you do need a part they find the one for your unit and can help you purchase. I'm 1000 % satisfied with all of my dealings with this company!! Good luck on your DIY repair!! YOU CAN DO IT!! John W Riva , MD July 17, 2021 The ice maker quit producing ice I initially thought the problem was in the solenoid valve because it seemed like the ice maker was not getting any water. I ordered the valve; when it came in and I opened the box there was a handy little instruction pamphlet that had a detailed test procedure, most steps of which ended in the words “Do NOT replace the valve.” It required me to move the electrical connector from the paddle switch on the front from one connection to the next, then test by pressing the switch. I soon discovered that my valve was fine, and had to turn my attention to the ice maker unit itself. As it turned out, the drive unit in the ice maker kept sticking in the same spot; you could push on the large gear in the direction of rotation and it would start turning, but stopped at the end of one revolution and stayed there unless you made it move again. I ordered a replacement unit, 15 minutes to take the old one out and put the new one in, and we are back in business. The “how to fix” video on this website was greatly helpful, I watched it before I bought the parts and discovered just how easy the whole process is. Not sure I would have tried it without seeing that first. My only wish is that the instruction set that was in the box with the solenoid valve was posted here to the website somewhere, so I could have done that set of tests first and avoided the need to send this other part back for a refund. Fortunately APP has a great return policy so I get my money back, just have to find the time to go to the UPS store to drop it off. Robert M Greer , SC October 08, 2015 Appliance: Frigidaire Refrigerator DGHS2634KW3 Ice maker stopped woprking This was a tough fix because there were two causes to my problem - a stuck water valve and a bad ice maker. I first replaced the water valve, but that did not resolve the problem. Tested existing water valve and found that the valves were working properly. Returned the water valve - easy RMA process and no issues. Replaced the ice maker and problem solved.
