Mike S Newark , DE October 27, 2014 Appliance: Model GE WASHER Agitator coupling failed rubber seperated from aluminum base/center would not agitate Removing the aluminum hub was ridiculous. this part should come with the rubber piece that is directly below it. removing that rubber piece is essential to the repair and is quite a battle to get off. To remove the aluminum hub ( no fasteners just a friction fit) I tried a 2 arm automotive wheel puller which pulled the arms through the aluminum with out budging the part. I finally resorted to using a Sawsall to cut a vertical slit into the hub down to the shaft so I could split it and get it off the shaft. The replacement part took a few gentle hammer taps to put onto shaft. Seating the agitator onto the replacement part required a little lithium grease, care to align the splines and a scary amount of force to seat the agitator onto the coupling. machine works great but not the pull off, snap on job it looks like. not a repair for the shy. tight working conditions. excessive force required. Philip M Reedsburg , WI August 15, 2016 Appliance: Model WWA8616MALWH Agitator not turning just squeaking loudly Removed agitator by pulling up on it. The coupler had failed and the rubber splined section was still in the agitator. I was able to cut the center of the agitator out with a sharp knife and then using the aluminum splined section off the shaft and a hammer tap the rubber splined coupler out of the agitator, by tapping back and forth on one side then the other. Once the new one arrived just lubricated with some silicone spray and placed over the shaft.I lined up the splines on the agitator and pushed it down, it went about half inch had to pound it on the rest of the way using a block of wood and large hammer. seated after 5 good blows. It worked great and part did come with directions. Read More... 12 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes
Denis C Hancock , MI September 30, 2015 Appliance: Model WWA8314VJLWH Agitator coupling Removed the plastic agitator. The coupling was stuck inside the top of the agitator. There were 3 small slots in the top of the agitator. I was able to stick in a small skinny shaft screwdriver in a tap with a rubber mallet in a circle pattern. After about 15 minutes of banging quite hard the coupling cam out. (By the way no instructions came with the part---WH1X1944) The hard part was getting the coupling to line up with the groves in the agitator & every time I tried it got stuck in the top of the agitator. A repeat of the tapping with screwdriver and mallet over & over again for about 10 times. Finally got it lined up and then had to struggle to get the agitator on completely. On the last 3" to 4" had to use the rubber mallet and small block of 2 x 4 and tap hard on the block to get it into final position. The washing machine is working fine now--probably saved over $350. Stu S East Hampton , NY January 29, 2024 Appliance: General Electric Washer WWA7050GAL The agitator in my washer was not turning. I replaced the agitator coupler, using the instructions provided with the coupler. It was simple to remove the old coupler using a dowel rod and rubber mallet. It was a bit more challenging to press the agitator down on the new coupler. I applied some dish soap to the agitator as a lubricant, and gently tapped the top of the agitator using a piece of wood between the agitator and the rubber mallet. A series of quick taps did the trick. Read More... 1 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: Less than 15 minutes Tools: Screwdrivers
