Christopher L Saint Charles , IL December 15, 2014 Appliance: General Electric Free Standing Microwave ZMC1095SF02 Ge monogram zmc1095sf02 microwave Wife let me know the microwave was making grinding noise while I was in garage fixing her car starter, never a dull moment. Further questioning she also said it wan't heating the food. Due to being an odd sized built in $$ unit I had to have repaired. I was getting quotes in the $4-500 range for just the magnetron. I was pretty confident the magnetron was the issue and also ordered a new capacitor and diode since I was going to be in there and a lot of money ahead repairing myself. About 15 screws on the unit's sheet metal case with a cordless drill to remove & I had complete access to the internals. A little daunting shorting the capacitor prior to digging in for the repair, the unit sat for about a week and the internal capacitor's resistor must have discharged the capacitor since it didn't even spark when I crossed the terminals. NOTE: do not trust the capacitor will self discharge as designed incase it too is faulty, they still need to be manually discharged, if you absorb the voltage it may be the last thing you do. 6 screws removed the plastic shroud over the magnetron as well as a bracket that holds the capacitor. There were 4 harnesses to unplug and 4 nuts holding in the magnetron. It was pretty simple and designed for servicing. GE had a 10 year warranty on the magnetron I believe and typical GE product it was 10 years old and just out of warranty. I ordered parts at 4:00 p/m on a Thursday and Fedex delivered them the next day at 9:30 a/m. I will be ordering more parts from AppliancePartsPros.com in the future if I need them, all GE OEM parts, great pricing and delivered Jimmie Johns fast! Scott S Charlotte , NC June 20, 2017 Microwave oven was not heating I ordered the capacitor, diode, and magnetron in hopes that I would be able to complete the repair using the less expensive parts. I first removed the oven from the wall and then I removed the metal housing to access the internal parts. I discharged the capacitor using a pair of insulated needle nose pliers. Then I changed out the diode and the capacitor and reassembled the unit and tested it. It still did not heat so I disassembled the unit again and replaced the magnetron this time. Reassembled the unit and tested it and this time it worked. With the excellent 365 day policy from Appliance Pro Parts you can return the unneeded parts. Elizabeth W Pemberton , NJ March 08, 2016 Appliance: Model JNM1851SM1SS Microwave stopped heating even though it ran Chatted with a verified expert at justanswer.com (for a fee), he confirmed the parts I needed. AppliancePartsPros.com had them in stock AND they were 100% returnable/refundable if I didn't use them or weren't what was bad, even if I installed them! Where can you get that kind of guarantee anymore? Used some YouTube videos to learn how to support the microwave to get it down, & we moved it to the table, I took out the old magnetron and high voltage diode and replaced with the OEM magnetron and new diode. Plugged it in and tested it-- worked fine! Had to rehang mounting bracket that builder put up with only 2 screws, and apply weatherstripping around outside vent, but that's a whole other story! Reinstalled with husband's help (and a cooler on the stovetop for support). Cheaper than a new one, which wouldn't have matched other appliances or been as powerful, or had the all features we enjoy. Hope for another 9 years of use! Read More... 88 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes Tools: Nut Drivers, Pliers, Screwdrivers
Edgardo G Mobile , AL August 09, 2016 Microwave did not heat First I watched some DIY videos for familiarization and safety. I bought a 28 Ohms resistor and rigged some wires and aligator clips and discharged the accumulated energy from the capacitor. Took out the magnetron and even when it showed good continuity I discarded it due to sings of been overheated. I reinstalled a new magnetron ( part # w27x10597 ) and a Diode HV Ass ( part # wb27x10682 ) for a total of about $ 143.00 including shipping cost. This price against a quoted price of $ 225.00 for technician showing up plus parts. Mi micro is working like new.
