14 year old GE Profile microwave wouldn't heat, but had power. Read reviews here. Ordered triumvirate of magnetron, capacitor, & diode. Was hoping not to need the capacitor as this was an expensive part; and if not needed to return to AppliancePartsPros, which has been SOP.
After watching a couple YouTube videos of microwave capacitors being shorted, I made a capacitor discharge tool ordering 24W 100K Ohm resistor and high voltage test wires w/ alligator clips from amazon. At the same time,...

My maytag mmv4205bab over the cooktop mounted microwave stopped heating without any warning the unit sounded like it was working but now the sound was noticeably louder i had replaced a magnetron Lee B. • Lakewood , CA • February 27, 2015
After dismounting the unit from its wall-hanging bracket, the most tedious part of the repair was removing over a dozen screws holding the cover in place from the top, bottom, and both sides. Fortunately, I had placed the unit on a bench that allowed me to slide the unit allowing access to the screws on the bottom edges of the unit. Always discharge the capacitor before continuing to work on the unit by discharging the capacitor by shorting the contact without the diode to ground. Access to the...

Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WB27X10597
The High Voltage Diode is an OEM part for GE microwaves. This high-voltage diode is crucial for converting alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC), enabling the magnetron to generate the microwave energy needed for cooking. Measuring approximately 3-1/2" in length, this diode features a banded side with a #8 ring terminal and a non-banded side with a 1/4" female quick connect.
You should replace the diode-H.V assembly if it becomes faulty due to electrical issues, wear and tear, or physical damage. Continuous exposure to high voltage can cause the diode to deteriorate over time, leading to malfunction.
Symptoms of a bad diode-H.V assembly include:
- The microwave not heating food
- A burning smell or unusual noises during operation
- The microwave shutting off unexpectedly
- Visible damage or burn marks on the diode
This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Wife let me know the microwave was making grinding noise while I was in garage fixing her car starter, never a dull moment. Further questioning she also said it wan't heating the food. Replacing a magnetron in my particular 9-year-old microwave (a microwave/hood combination) was not a simple “plug & play” operation. That is why I am placing this in the slightly difficult area. First, it takes 2 people to remove the microwave from the top of the stove. Next the main outer panel need to be removed. Part Number: WB27X1160
This high-voltage rectifier diode is used in the microwave's high-voltage circuit. It converts AC to DC so the magnetron can produce heat. A failed diode can cause no heat, loud humming, or a blown fuse when starting. What it does:
- Rectifies high-voltage AC to DC to power the magnetron
- Blocks reverse voltage in the HV circuit
- Common failure symptoms can include: runs but doesn't heat; loud hum then shutdown; line fuse blows at startup
What's included:
Install notes:
- Unplug the microwave and properly discharge the high-voltage capacitor before servicing—dangerous voltage can remain even when unplugged
- Match diode orientation/polarity to the original and ensure a solid chassis ground connection where used
- Route leads and reinstall any clamps/insulators exactly as found; keep wiring clear of sharp edges and hot components
- If the original diode failed, inspect the HV capacitor and transformer for related issues before reassembly

Part Number: WB26X28935
The High Voltage Diode is an OEM replacement part for GE microwaves. It converts the high voltage of the microwave's power supply into a lower voltage suitable for the magnetron. It acts as a one-way valve for electrical current, allowing it to flow in one direction while preventing it from flowing back in the opposite direction.
Symptoms of a faulty high voltage diode include:
- No power or complete loss of power to the microwave
- Inconsistent or inadequate heating performance
- Unusual electrical smells during operation
A bad high voltage diode can occur due to electrical malfunctions, power surges, or excessive heat exposure. If you notice issues such as no power, uneven heating, or unusual electrical smells coming from the microwave, it may be time to replace the old or damaged high voltage diode with this genuine OEM part.
This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Bad magnetron John D. • Sugar Land , TX • June 07, 2021
After testing the power diode and capacitor that drives the magnetron power source, they came up good on the static tests with the multimeter and battery (used for the diode test). And the static test of the magnetron came fine too, ie: passed the ohm resistance test and short to case resistance tests. Still the oven works only heat water to ~137 degrees max even after running for several minutes. I suspected a break in the winding of the magnetron might be opening after it heats up. Try as I...
