Michael H Newtown , PA October 13, 2019 Appliance: General Electric Electric Range JT955SF3SS Convection oven screeching noise when warming up The oven was so loud, it was hard to talk to someone in the kitchen. We replaced the motor and the fan blade. 1. Turn off power to the oven. 2. Remove the oven doors 3. Remove the cover for the fan. 4. Turn the fan blade nut clockwise to loosen( it's opposite of normal) - Save the nut and the small clip that is behind the fan as you'll need them again. 5. Remove the screws that hold oven to the kitchen cabinet frame. 6. Slide oven out of kitchen cabinet and place on the floor - it takes 2 people to do this. 7. The back of the oven has a sheet metal cover that needs to be removed - 6-8 screws 8. I used a shop vac to remove the dust in the vents, etc. 9. The motor is easily accessible and has 3 screws that hold it in place. 10. The wiring harness is simple and clicks to connect. 11. Replace the motor and reconnect the wiring harness. 12. Re-attach the sheet metal cover. 13. Back to the front of the oven - We then put the clip on the motor, the fan on and re-tightened the fan blade (counterclockwise to tighten) and re-attached cover. 14. We slid oven back into the kitchen cabinet, installed the screws, oven doors and we're done. The repair itself took about 40 minutes and was very easy to do. Getting the oven back into the kitchen cabinet and getting old holes to realign was the hardest part...we ended up using a car jack that allowed us to slid it under the oven and push up each side as needed to get the cabinet screws lined up...once we figured this out, it took 5 minutes to complete. Diego G Eden Prairie , MN February 04, 2017 Convection fan screaming like the undead are coming I took the cover off and the fan had separated from the bushing. Ordered a new fan and nut and it took all of 5 minutes to replace. Probably saved $159.99 service call repair and that is with a coupon. Any one can do this repair, just make sure the oven is cold as you will come in contact with metal parts. Since I would have it apart, I replaced the convection fan and nut which was a good idea because the fan bent while trying to remove the fan nut. The convection fan was rusted out and looked terrible so, a very worthwhile replacement. Repair took about an hour because I had to remove the wall unit and this involved disconnecting electrical power and the microwave above the oven. Read More...
