Joel B Baytown , TX December 17, 2016 Dryer motor hums but won't turn over I could hear the dryer motor hum, but it would not run. There was nothing obstructing the motor from turning freely so I assumed I needed a new motor. I went ahead and ordered a new pulley switch to change out while I was in there just in case. The parts arrived faster than expected. I changed the switch first and then checked the old motor which surprisingly fired right up. Now I have to decide whether to return the new motor or keep it as a spare. Kenneth S Austin , TX December 14, 2015 Dryer would not heat but would tumble and blower functional Heater element and all thermostats checked out OK for continuity. Diagnosed the issue to be an internal fault within the motor switch. Unfortunately, for my model, the switch is integrated with the motor assembly. Also motor was a newer version that required a jumper that paired with the original wiring harness. Supplied instructions were good (with pictures). Installation was straight forward but quite a bit of disassembly was required. Make sure you keep track of the screws and where they belong. Otherwise, I was able to complete the job with a Phillips screwdriver and 1/4" nut driver. Everything runs great now! Thomas F Estero , FL July 31, 2016 Appliance: General Electric Dryer GTDX205EM0CC Motor wouldn't start or would sometimes run backwards Purchased and installed a new motor. A few tips: 1. You will need to remove the frame assembly the motor is mounted to from the dryer. That means disconnecting wires that go to the belt switch and thermostat. 2. You need to unscrew the existing plastic blower wheel from the shaft CCW. This involves holding the shaft with pliers and using significant force. The plastic vanes are fragile and you will need a large set of pliers to hold the shaft in place. This was the most difficult part of the repair. 3. If you need to use the Dekalb to Nidec adapter, be sure to secure it to the motor before installing the motor. 4. There are some videos which suggest removing the motor mount clamp screws are sufficient. I found that removing the two screws that held the clam to the frame was a better idea. Then the clamp can be mounted to the new motor securely before installing the new motor with the clam attached into the frame. 5. You'll need a Phillips head screwdriver for all screws except for the motor clamp, which only takes a T-20 Torx Read More... 3 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 1-2 hours Tools: Nut Drivers, Pliers, Screwdrivers
Kevin C Montgomery Village , MD July 10, 2020 Appliance: General Electric General Electric GTDP180ED0WW Dryer started squeaking then turned into a loud screeching when running. My dryer was making a very loud noise while running. At first, a repair person came out and replaced the front plastic bearings but it had little effect. It appears that our rear bearing drum kit was also worn out, so I replaced that, but it still didn't solve it. Starting to feel like the dad from "A Christmas Story" who is always doing battle with an appliance in the basement, I set out to figure out what was causing it. Through trial and error, I was able to determine that the motor was going bad. Lubricant failed to fix the problem, so I ordered a new one here. With the helpful video posted here, I was able to turn this simple repair into a good father-daughter bonding time and taught my 11-year-old how to replace the motor (only doing some of trickier parts for her). Our dryer hasn't been this quiet since it was brand new, and I'm pretty sure we just reset the effective life on it from 10 years old down to 1 year old with the parts we replaced. The prices on Appliance Parts Pro are very competitive, and while you may be able to find slightly cheaper OEM parts elsewhere, I'm always ordering my parts here because they have great shipping, great service, and are committed to helping you get your repair done properly. Other sellers will take your money and leave you hanging. Wanda J Chevy Chase , MD September 06, 2016 Appliance: General Electric General Electric GTDP490GD0WS Dryer wouldn't keep running after start button was pushed All indicators pointed to winding switches built into the motor, so I replaced that. Unfortunately, didn't solve the problem. Your video was great, best of the numerous ones I found online. The blower assembly was different, however, so I had to stop to find another video to figure out how to remove it. Because I have no strength in my hands, I used a vise grip to "lock" the shaft while I got both hands on the blower fan to turn it counterclockwise to remove it.
