Kenmore / Sears Dryer Motor

My 12 year old Kenmore dryer problem started about 3 years ago with the motor just stopping. My thing was: I would turn it off and turn the drum by hand about halfway around and it would work again. Checked thermal fuse, belt pulley switch, door switch, and motor windings (primary 2.3 ohms start 2,2 ohms). Called Appliance Pros, told them my problem. They said that it appears to be the motor even though the ohm readings seam Ok and that I could return the motor if it was not the problem. I ordred the motor and blower wheel. Installed the new motor and everything worked! The only difficult part was that the motor blower had to be chiseled out. Their motor repair video was a great help. Read more

After watching the how to video twice I decided to embark on dismantling my dryer and attempting to replace my motor. After realizing that the main tool needed was a Phillips screwdriver I was sure I could handle this repair. One by one I took apart the dryer and spread out the parts throughout my mud room. 1.5 hrs later and I have a working dryer, and most of all a happy wife. Replaced the motor with a new one, if I can offer any advice about doing this job, make sure to keep track of where each wire goes on the motor and whatever wires need to be disconnected. I could hear the dryer motor hum, but it would not run. There was nothing obstructing the motor from turning freely so I assumed I needed a new motor. I went ahead and ordered a new pulley switch to change out while I was in there just in case. The parts arrived faster than expected. I changed the switch first and then checked the old motor which surprisingly fired right up. Now I have to decide whether to return the new motor or keep it as a spare. Read more

I replaced the motor. It was time consuming because you have to take all of the parts that attach off. Was fairy simple. Pleased about the parts delivery. Ordered and received the next day. Read more

Removed front of dryer panel, removed top, and removed drum. Replaced motor and wheel, because the old wheel was rusted on the motor shaft, and could not be removed, so I had to break it off. Replaced motor, and reassembled. Everything works now. I also replace the switch-Pb, because the start button was getting stuck. Read more

Discovered the motor in dryer was making noise coming from bearing. Abviously by removing the back panel. Also replace tensioner which appeared to be a little tight. Went on You Tube to assist me in repair. Great resource on this fix and past repairs Read more

Replaced drive motor assembly. As luck would have it, the replacement motor was loud but at least ran for the entire cycle. APP was informed of the excessively noisy motor and immediately sent out a replacement, which is working just fine in relative silence.
