Paul M Lindenhurst , NY May 13, 2026 Appliance: General Electric Microwave/Hood Combo PVM9179SR1SS Ge profile microwave stopped microwaving and started making a growling sound I was ready to ditch this microwave as I have been through this before with the same brand but I could not locate a suitable replacement at a reasonable cost. I opened it up, tested the components directly related to the microwave side of the oven (YouTube is your friend and be careful if you are unfamiliar with high voltage electronics; also you need to be somewhat adept at the disassembling process (and reassembling also)) and was unable to pinpoint a culprit. I don't like shotgunning (replacing components without knowing if they are broken) and it can get expensive very quickly using new brand name parts but I had little choice. I took a guess it was the magnetron and was fortunate enough to be correct (although the first one I received was damaged in shipping, and the second part, once installed and tested, immediately blew the HV fuse and I needed to purchase a pack of fuses (note: the original fuse was a fast blow type, the replacement is a slow blow)).
