Daniel B Carlsbad , CA November 16, 2014 Appliance: General Electric Refrigerator ZICS360NMARH Door would not self close wheel in top door closure assembly was worn flat Downloaded the Technical Service Guide and followed the instructions for removal of the Door Closure Mechanism. Items the instructions failed to mention: 1. Although they took the trouble to call for removal of a 3/16" Allen head bolt, they referred to the closure mounting bolts as just "bolts". In fact, they were T-25 bolts. If I didn't have a Torx kit, it would have required a trip to the Orange Big Box Home Center to complete the job. 2. Although the instructions don't describe this step, it's necessary to remove the stainless steel wire guard/trim panel that obstructs that famous Allen head bolt. Their photo shows the Door Closure Mechanism with the panel removed. Installing the Closure Assembly is fairly easy. As described in the guide, the top door hinge shares bolts with the closure assembly. You need to pull up on the door handle to get the hinge plate and closure assembly holes to align with the holes in the cabinet. One of the bolts came from the factory misaligned and not fully seated. I wasted 10-15 minutes trying to get it to align and seat, but to no avail. Reinstalling the closure spring, which the Guide describes as being under moderate tension is challenging. I have replaced that spring before when it broke, so I figured I'd order a spare. Since I don't have any spring pliers, and I don't think I could get spring pliers in the tight work space, I grabbed the spring with a Vise-Grip and pulled it over its mounting pin. One warning: there are several sheet metal screws protruding into the area of the Closure Assembly. Unless you're careful, you'll end up with scraped knuckles. Door works good as new now! Stephen A Los Altos , CA August 03, 2015 Broken spring which maintains door closure Determined which part was needed. Ordered the part on-line one day and it arrived on my door step next day with regular, standard delivery. Unfortunately UNABLE to install the part as I can't stretch the spring far enough to connect correctly. There must be a way to connect the spring which is not apparent to me and I don't want to screw up my refrigerator. I'm calling a professional to install the spring BUT it was very simple and quick to order the spring on-line. John H Mission Viejo , CA July 27, 2015 36 built in dredge spring replacement Tried the screwdriver method several times with no success. I also gave up on several "homade" ideas that might make use of a a small aquard space to put spring onto their respective homes, my solution was to bend one of the arms of the spring out a little bit. I also used a small piece of wood to give my screwdriver better leverage. Another tip, make sure the bent catch on the spring is facing downward while attaching the mounted stationary arm. After slipping on, take needlenose or players to crim spring back.
