Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP71001970
A replacement oven door seal that restores a tight gasket between the oven and door. It helps prevent heat loss, reduce uneven cooking and keep the exterior cooler for safer, more consistent results. What it does:
- Creates an airtight seal between the oven cavity and door to reduce heat escape.
- Helps maintain stable cooking temperatures to minimize hot spots and uneven baking.
- Stops smoke or fumes from leaking around the door during use.
- Visible signs of failure include tears, compressed or brittle material, and gaps along the door edge.
What's included: One door seal. Install notes:
- Disconnect power (or gas supply) and allow the oven to fully cool before starting work.
- Handle the gasket gently to avoid tearing; align and seat it into the door channel per the OEM pattern.
- Some models require removing the oven door or retaining clips — keep and reuse any factory fasteners when possible.
- Refer to the appliance's OEM service instructions for model-specific removal and reinstallation guidance.

Restore a tight, heat-holding seal around your oven door. This replacement door gasket helps keep heat and moisture inside the oven for more consistent temperatures and reliable cooking performance. What it does
- Seals the gap between the oven door and front frame to contain heat and vapor
- Helps the oven reach and maintain set temperatures for even baking and roasting
- Reduces heat escape that can cause longer preheat times or temperature swings
- Replaces seals that are torn, frayed, flattened, or leaking heat around the door
What's included
Install notes
- Disconnect power and allow the oven to cool completely before servicing
- Open the door and remove the old gasket by releasing its retaining clips; note orientation
- Start at the top center and press the new gasket into place evenly—do not stretch it
- Close the door and check for a uniform seal all around; readjust as needed

Door would not close all the way causing the convection fan to turn off and not bake Dennis R. • Mishicot , WI • January 02, 2017
It took a while to figure out what was going on but I noticed the oven light would come on and the convection fan would shut off. I would push the door shut and everything would work for a while and then it would start all over. I noticed the oven gasket was very hard in places and that was what was causing the door to not close. It was not a hinge problem. Replace the gasket which was very easy to do yourself and your problems will go away.
