I replaced the filter cartridge that is located underneath the lower spray arm. The original filter cartridge had become completely blinded off, the filter media is a very fine mesh nylon fabric and it gets clogged up eventually with hard water scale and other non-soluble materials (including dishwasher detergent). This is a mesh filter assembly that fits inside the dishwasher's sump area to catch food particles and debris during the wash cycle. It prevents large particles from recirculating onto dishes or clogging the drain pump. Replace this filter if your dishes come out dirty, if you notice food residue remaining after a cycle, or if the dishwasher is draining slowly.
