The recoil starter assembly includes the housing, starter pull rope, and starter grip. It attaches to the flywheel in lawn equipment engines so that when the starter rope is pulled, the recoil spring is retracted and causes the flywheel to rotate, allowing the engine to fire up. Constant starting will eventually result in the starter rope becoming loose or the entire recoil becoming seized up. If the starter rope won’t retract or if the starter is frozen and won’t engage, a replacement is needed. To install the recoil starter assembly, remove the screws that hold the housing in place, take off the old recoil and replace it with the new one. Then, replace the screws and get back to work. Always use gloves when working on equipment engines and make sure to disconnect the spark plug before beginning repairs. This recoil starter assembly is compatible with various engines from MTD and Tecumseh, including more than 150 horizontal 4-cycle engines. It may be used on tillers, generators, log splitters, or other small engines sold by Briggs & Stratton, Cub Cadet, and Tecumseh. Sold individually.
