This blower wheel mounts on the drive motor and pushes air through the dryer drum and out the exhaust. Replacing a worn wheel restores proper airflow for consistent drying and helps prevent overheating and nuisance shutdowns. What it does:
- Moves air across the heater, through the drum, and out the vent to remove moisture
- Helps maintain proper airflow and temperature inside the dryer
- Common failure symptoms: reduced or no airflow at the exterior vent, longer dry times, unusual scraping/thumping or vibration from the blower area, or overheating/shutoff
- Cracked fins or a stripped hub can cause the wheel to slip on the motor shaft

- Disconnect power and turn off gas supply before servicing
- Access the blower housing per your model's service instructions; remove the retaining hardware and replace the wheel in the same orientation
- Clean lint from the blower housing and vent path; inspect the motor shaft and blower seal for wear
- Reassemble and verify the wheel spins freely without rubbing; check airflow at the exterior vent

I replaced the downdraft fan and fan motor of my 25 year old JennAire C301 cooktop. The issue was getting the fan/motor assembly out in such a tight place. I had to first remove the fan cover, cut the wires, then the assembly came out. Putting back wasn't as tough although getting the cover back on (over the motor) was a bit of a strain. Wired it back, turned it on, and was thrilled. Now I'll replace the knobs and burners and we're back in business.
