This is a mechanical defrost timer that controls the automatic defrost cycle of the refrigerator. It periodically shuts off the compressor and energizes the defrost heater so frost can melt, helping maintain proper cooling performance.
- Cycles the unit between cooling and defrost at set intervals
- Stuck or failed timers can cause warm temperatures, heavy frost, or continuous running
- Can also cause short-cycling or no-cool if contacts fail
What's included: One defrost timer assembly only. Installation notes:
- Disconnect power before servicing
- Access is typically from the control housing or rear service area; note wire positions before removal
- Replace one-for-one with the same terminal orientation; do not force the cam
- After install, allow one full cycle to verify defrost operation

The lid switch lever connects the washer's lid hinge to the lid switch, signaling when the lid is closed so the cycle can run. A damaged lever can prevent the safety interlock from closing, leading to no-start or spin issues. What it does:
- Transfers lid movement at the hinge to the lid switch actuator
- A closed lid so the washer can operate
- Common symptoms of a failed lever: washer won't start; won't spin; cycle pauses because the lid-closed signal isn't detected
What's included:
Install notes:
- Disconnect power before servicing
- Lift or open the top to access the hinge/switch area; locate the lever near the lid switch
- Remove the old lever and install the new one in the same orientation; free movement
- Close the lid by hand and the switch clicks before reassembly and testing

High heat when air tumble was selected. David L. • Fort Washington , PA • June 25, 2021
I did not bother to troubleshoot the original parts. After 20 years I figured that I should just replace them both. The hardest part of the repair was determining how to access the control panel. Once that was done, it was merely a matter of 5 minutes to swap out the parts. The relay simply screwed in. The switch as designed for easier, non screw, replacement, pointing out that they expected this switch to fail and need to be easily replaced.
