FIRST I PULL THE DRYER OUT FROM THE WALL AND TOOK THE BACK OFF. WITH A 5/16 NUT DRIVER. NEXT WITH A LIGHT SET UP I LOOKED FOR ANY BURNT, BROKEN,OR LOSE WIRES THAT MY HAVE COME OFF ANY CONNECTIONS. I HAVE AN ELECTRIC DRYER AND AS I LOOKED DOWN TO THE HEATING COIL AREA, WHAT I WILL CALL A HI-TEMP SWITCH I COULD SEE THAT THE PART APPEARED BURNT. I PULLED THE POWER PLUG AND TOOK MY VOLT, OHM, MIL'LI'AMP METER, SET IT TO OHMS ON ABOUT 20K. THEN I TOOK MY NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS AND PULLED ONE WIRE...

Performed a partial rebuild of all expendables..clutch/brake/ seals/agitator cogs/suspension springs..chose to replace the basket drive rather than rebuild...cost diff was minimal.did rebuild the drive tube..seals/bearings..have spare control card..so exposure is to motor or gearbox failure..both of which are easy pulls..Whether we would rebuild or replace gearbox upon some future failure is undecided. Note the videos offered by APP are quite good but there are sometimes minor gaps in the tear...
