The Drive Cup is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. This part engages with other parts to drive the ice out of the molds and into the storage bin.
Causes of Drive Cup failure can range from physical wear and tear from regular use, which may lead to cracks or deformities in the part, to accumulation of frost or ice that hinders its movement.
Symptoms of a malfunctioning Drive Cup include:
- The ice maker fails to eject ice properly, leading to clogs or jams within the system.
- Unusual noises during the ice-making cycle, which could indicate that the drive cup is not engaging correctly with other components.
- Decreased efficiency in ice production, as the mechanism struggles to operate smoothly.
This OEM GE part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.
This part fixes the following symptoms
-
Ice maker won't dispense ice

The Ice Door Spring is an OEM part compatible with GE refrigerators. It is responsible for providing tension and support to the ice chute door, allowing it to open and close smoothly. When you activate the ice dispenser, the spring helps to release the door and allow the ice to pass through. After dispensing, the spring assists in closing the door to prevent cold air leakage and maintain the desired temperature inside the refrigerator.
You should replace the ice door spring if it loses tension or breaks, which can happen due to regular wear and tear, frequent use, or accidental damage. A faulty spring can lead to issues with the ice dispenser's operation and overall efficiency.
Symptoms of a bad ice door spring may include:
- Difficulty in opening or closing the ice chute door
- Ice dispensing issues, such as the door not opening when the dispenser is activated
- Cold air leakage from the ice chute area
- Ice buildup on the front of the icemaker
This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Ice dispenser door not closing tightly; frost build up in ice chute; mold growing behind ice and water mechanism Terrance A. • Arleta , CA • March 21, 2017
The ice dispenser door was not closing tightly. As a result, there was frost build up in the ice chute, which also was allowing ambient air and temperature into the freezer compartment. Upon further inspection, there was black “schmutz” on the ice door, and the rubber ice funnel and deflector parts were deteriorating. Because the door was not closing tightly, I also assumed that the door-closing spring was week. The parts I ordered were: ice door assembly, ice funnel, ice deflector, spring and...

Refrigerator temp above 55 and freezer coils iced over. George A. • Rochester , NY • May 07, 2020
From the AppliancePartsPros web site I found that 80% of the time either one or both of the defrost heater or timer caused these symptoms. Ordered and received the parts in less than 2 days. Replaced both parts in less than 2 hours without any hassles. Only 48 hours have past but all is operating with the proper temperatures. The most likely failure was the defrost heaters, they were totally blackened when removed and the new ones were clear glass when installed. I have no way of knowing...
