I ordered 2 new gaskets, one for the freezer and another for the refrigerator. These arrived within a few days. I soaked both in the bathtub filled with hot water for about 20 minutes. My grandson installed both gaskets without any trouble. I duck taped on the freezer door to allow it to 'seep' with the cold air inside the freezer unit as I was told this would help make a better seal. • Ice maker not making ice

GE bottom freezer icemaker stopped working for the 2nd time. Refrigerator bought in 2008, replaced (first time) icemaker in 2009 by GE tech for $450, after 7 years 2nd ice maker failed I decided to attempt replacing the icemaker myself. Purchased a replacement icemaker that comes as a kit. I replaced the water valve and the icemaker unit with in 30 minutes and I had ice the next day. Easy peasy for less than $140. Spliced new and old power cord near the connections in the fridge and connected them. Didn't mess with the factory harnesses or connections inside actual fridge. Read more

Replaced original (18 yrs.) 1/4" plastic tubing, clamp and grommet (AppliancePartsPros/GE parts) from outlet of ice maker water control valve to ice maker inlet. Also replaced water supply line to inlet of water control valve with new, GE braided, PEX 1/4" supply line with pre-attached female compression fittings on both ends. Hired a repair professional. This is an expensive fridge so I wanted to repair rather than replace. The estimated cost for the repair was quite high, but at least it was itemized. I went on-line and found Appliance Parts Pros, and bought the major plus one minor part from them. I arranged with my local repair guy to use the parts I bought on-line. I purchased main control board/defrost limiter thermostat and defrost heater I only needed the defrost limiter thermostat fairly easy to do simple tools needed. I would rate this job as a 6 or 7 on a scale of 10 10 being most difficult the only thing that took time was defrosting the evaporator I used a small steam cleaner worked well Read more
