Fix dishwasher overfilling or not filling with water by replacing the float assembly. Common issue with sticky buildup preventing proper operation.

Inadequate cleaning of dishes / detergent residue all over the interior Randy N. • Elkhart , IN • September 19, 2015
I cleaned all the jet nozzles with a toothpick and a pipe cleaner to remove the hard water deposits. I then replace the ring bearing under the bottom spray wand and the ring bearing under the upper spray wand. I also replaced the smaller radial ring bearing. Although none of them looked overly worn, it doesn't take much to cause the spray wands to spray inadequately.
Then, I replaced the float and washer assembly. Although it appeared to work properly when I lifted up on it and let it down, it...

If your dishwasher door drops or won't stay open, the door spring likely needs replacement. Requires pulling the unit out. Takes 30 minutes typically.

The dishwasher door spring broke. Rachael T. • Junction City , OR • November 07, 2022
I ordered the parts, deciding that if one spring had broken, the other one should probably be replaced at the same time. I followed the suggestion of ordering the door spring bearing given on the ordering page, and since I had not yet pulled out the dishwasher, did not know that it was not used in this older model. However, the order arrived quickly (4 days), and they are genuine Whirlpool, made in the USA, parts. The access to the sides of the dishwasher where the springs are attached...

Door won't latch or dishwasher won't start? This door latch linkage bar connects your handle to the latch mechanism for secure closure and cycle activation.
Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
Latch would not open consistently on detergent dispenser James G. • Waxhaw , NC • January 12, 2015
Appeared to be two problems: the latch was worn and one of the pins that slid in a guide on the actuator located in the inner panel had broke off. Detergent lid spring and pin appeared to be OK but decided to replace since I was aready working on it. I ordered all the inner panel mechanism from the control arm to the latch actuator on the inner panel. The repair was successful as the detergent dispenser now opens during its cycle.

Blown dishwasher pump. Paul M. • Littleton , CO • December 10, 2018
I called AppliancePartsPros, talked to a technician to validate problem, ordered part.
I had a great talk with the technician. Told him I have electrical engineering experience, used to fix pinball machines and that the pinballs and home appliances were the same design, i.e. inductor in series with a switch across the hot lines. After that the conversation was like two long lost cousins talking at a family barbeque! Great customer service!

My 1984 dishwasher that still works great was an eyesore & I didn't match my other appliances. Dorothy L. • Raleigh , NC • March 24, 2014
I purchased a can of black appliance spray paint, removed the panels on the dishwasher, sprayed them, and a few hours later put them back. They're beautiful and it looks like I have a brand new dishwasher! It now matches everything and looks great with the new granite counter tops I just installed. THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT IDEA!!! I'm a 76 year old female and my friends think I'm a genius!

This vent screen covers the dishwasher door vent, allowing steam to escape while blocking food particles and debris. Replacing a damaged or missing screen helps maintain proper airflow and can reduce moisture and odors around the vent area.
- Screens the door vent to keep debris out of the vent duct and fan path
- Maintains airflow for venting steam during the dry cycle
- A clogged, cracked, or missing screen may lead to moisture at the vent, odors, or reduced drying performance
- Replace if warped, broken, or lost during service
What's included: 1 vent screen Install notes:
- Disconnect power to the dishwasher at the breaker before servicing
- Open the door and remove inner-door screws to access the vent assembly
- Remove the old screen, seat the new screen fully and evenly, then reassemble without overtightening
- Run a short cycle and check the vent area for proper airflow and moisture
