The Potentiometer is an OEM replacement part for Bosch gas range or cooktops. It functions as a three-terminal resistor that adjusts the flow of electric current, which in turn, controls the ignition and temperature of the cooktop. This component is essential for the precise operation and control of the gas burners, ensuring they light up and maintain the desired flame intensity.

Causes of a malfunctioning Potentiometer can be attributed to wear and tear, electrical issues, or damage due to spills and cleaning products. A compromised potentiometer affects the flow of electric current, leading to issues with the ignition and temperature control of the gas burners.

Symptoms of a bad Potentiometer include:

  • The cooktop not lighting or staying lit
  • The ignitor continuously clicking without igniting the burner
  • Inability to adjust the flame intensity or temperature accurately

This OEM Bosch part is also compatible with Thermador, Gaggenau, and some Kenmore models.

Hello Quang, thank you for contacting APP, You will need to disconnect the unit from power, remove the grates, disassemble the star burners, and remove them. Then you should be able to remove the spill trays and have access to the Simmer Control and various other components. The Front Control Panel is not removed for accessing any components, but you should see the brackets and screws that hold it in place once the spill trays are removed.

Hello Quang, thank you for contacting APP, If you are not getting gas or spark on the left burners the Simmer Control 00422882 has likely failed or is not receiving 120 volts AC at the Line connection on the Simmer Control due to a wiring issue. To access this component you will need to disconnect the unit from power, remove the grates, and disassemble the star burners and remove them. Then you should be able to remove the spill trays and have access to the Simmer Control and various other components. The Front Control Panel is not removed for accessing any components, but you should see the brackets and screws that hold it in place once the spill trays are removed.

Brett, With the unit igniters not working then potentiometers and the simmer control would be the right things to replace.

Brent, Thanks for the question!!! Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not have a procedure for making those burners regular. We can only recommend usages within the manufacturer's recommendations.

Hello Michael, You will most likely need to replace the simmer control 00422882. If this part has never been replaced, the original potentiometers 00422748 are not compatible with this part so they will also need to be replaced. This board 00619016 could also be the culprit, but there is no test recommended by the manufacturer to determine which is the case. I'm sorry but this part 00422882 has been discontinued by the manufacturer and no satisfactory substitutions have been provided. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Ernie for Model Number Thermador RDSS30VRS Ser# 20020116

Hi can you tell me if the new Potentiometers that came out in 2005 422748 or 422749 will work in my range that had #497235 kit and I believe potentiometer 189816 or 189817. The Bulletin that came out in 2005 states that if you have a serial number below 9706 or above 9707 (the first 4 digits on mine are 2002) The above potentiometers will work. The left front burner sparks but does not put out gas or light. All others including the back simmer burner work fine. I can send you a pic of the mod & ser # tag. People seemed to be confused with this number. Thanks.

Ernie, the potentiometer kit 00497235 would be used with the model and serial provided. Unfortunately, this kit has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available.

E, The potentiometers are for the simmer burners and the regular burners will use ignition switches. We do not have information on the differences between the potentiometers but they are for different units.

Walter for Model Number Thermador PRG304US

My left, rear burner ignites and works but only for several minutes. After approximately 10 minutes, the flame and gas flow will stop. The igniter will start clicking but without gas, of course, there isn't a flame. If I wait maybe 30 to 45 minutes, gas flow is back allowing me to use the burner but again only for several minutes. I also notice after about 30 minutes of oven use, the burner, when turned on, will click but without any gas flow. Is it possible the problem I have with a part or parts is heat related causing this malfunction? Any ideas as to what parts I might need to correct this issue?

1 Answer

Walter, based on the information provided, either the solenoid valve 00411253 or the simmer controller 00422882 has failed. With access to the simmer controller at the bottom of the range, the burner would need to be turned on until it shuts off on its own. Once it shuts off, the controller would need to be tested for 10VDC from the terminal Sol 2 to the terminal Sol 2 Return. If there is 10VDC, the solenoid valve has failed. If there is not, the simmer controller has failed.
