Dan, A couple of things you may want to try. Place the filter in a clean bucket of water or the kitchen sink, let it "soak" for a while, remove the filter and drain the water from the filter and soak it again, try that a couple or three times. The other option, install the filter and run a couple or three gallons or water through the water dispenser. Either method should flush out any residual material left in the production process.

Mike, It is possible that the off brand filter could leak a little because it is not a manufacturers part. The other thing that could cause this would be a filter head assembly that is defective.

Keith, When you are purging the water you need to make sure that you are using a pitcher because there will be air trapped in the lines that will cause the water to flow until the air comes out. If the air did come out and continue to run water then the issue may be caused by a faulty water valve.

Penny, if the dispenser is working but not the icemaker then you will want to check to make sure that the fill tube that comes in through the back of the refrigerator is not frozen in the freezer compartment where it enters the icemaker.

Make sure the water line in the freezer door is not frozen. If not, you will need to replace the water valve 242252702 on the unit.
