Teresa Phillipson for Model Number Frigidaire Model FRS6R4EW0

We have been using replacement water filter cartridge WF284 Aqua Fresh PureSourcePlus. I wanted to test our water to see how effective the filter is. I have a TDS Tester, the closer the reading is to 0 the better the water. I tested the water prior to replacing the cartridge, which has been in the fridge for about 5 months. Note: This is a work fridge. The number came up to about 170 which indicated the water is hard. I then replaced the cartridge with a new one and ran 4 pitchers full of water through. I ran the water test again, and the reading was the same - no improvement after replacing the water cartridge. 1. Am I using the right replacement cartridge? 2. Is the fridge so old it's no longer filtering properly? Also, I found two little rubber nuts on shelf in fridge. I have looked up the parts drawings, but can't identify what they are. They are about 3/8 in diameter with a tiny hole in middle about the size of a push pin needle. I have a picture which I can send to you. Thanks, Teresa Phillipson 870-425-3444 Mountain Home, AR

Teresa, What you are testing the water for is water hardness in which the water hardness will not change by going through the filter. The water hardness will be for the amount of calcium in the water which is what creates the hardness.

Ron, This unit does not have a filter bypass and you would just simply remove the filter and reinstall the filter cup.

Hello Marcha. There is no need to remove a cover. You unscrew the cup and replace the filter on this model. Thank you.

Hello James, I'm sorry but we will need to ask you to post a new question including the model number from the units' I.D. tag. This is the only way we can know what configuration/design you have in your home. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Hello Carl9s. The icemaker will not work if the freezer is not cold. Check the defrost control board 5303918476 and the cold control 241537104 5304496561 if the unit is not running. If the compressor is running, then the sealed system has failed and you will need an HVAC tech to come out and repair the unit.

Bill M for Model Number Frigidaire Side by Side

Ice maker stopped working and not sure what to do. As fate would have it, we lost power one evening for a couple of hours and the next morning the ice tray was full of ice! I was told that I should replace the WFCB filter. Powered off the refrigerator and shut off the water supply line for the refrigerator as well. Replaced the WFCB filter and turned water back on and plugged back in after an hour. The next morning I expected to wake up to a full ice tray again and nothing. Any suggestions?

Bill, This is a cannister type water filter, if you're sure you have it properly installed and the cover on tight enough to prevent any leaks, then the fill valve would be the next components to check or replace.

Newton, It appears that the water filter cover retainer screw is a 1/4 in. hex head/slotted screw 5304455650. You should be able to use a 1/4 inch hex head socket or nut driver, or a 1/4 inch flat blade screwdriver to remove/install the retainer screw.

Yali, You may want to try turning off the water and dispensing water at the dispenser, this should release any pressure inside the filter system. Then try using a hair dryer and warm the filter base(area above the filter cup) then try to turn the cup counter clockwise(left). You could or may need to use a medium or large pair of "channel lock" pliers use the tool to loosen the cup. Once you've got the cup off and the filter changed, apply a thin coat of "Vaseline" or food grade lubricant to the threads of the cup, and install it.
