The Agitator Assembly is an OEM part for GE washing machines. This part moves clothes through the water and detergent during the wash cycle. This part ensures thorough cleaning by creating the necessary motion to distribute and cleanse laundry evenly.

Causes of a bad Agitator Assembly can range from wear and tear over extended use, to damage from overloading the washing machine, or even issues with the drive mechanism that powers the agitator's motion.

Symptoms of a bad Agitator Assembly include:

  • Clothes coming out of the wash still dirty or not as clean as expected
  • The washing machine making unusual noises during the wash cycle
  • The agitator not moving during the cycle or moving erratically

This OEM GE part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Ge Agitator Assembly (Part Number: OEM11985450)

Debbie, The model number listed is not showing as being a good model. If the shaft came out then this would require a new transmission. The agitator would be held on with a coupling which would be up inside the agitator which it did not release from the coupler and is why the shaft came out.

Hello Alex. It really depends on the type of noise and where it is coming from. You will need to locate where the noise is coming from on the unit. Then repair or replace the part that is making the noise.

Rock West, To get the agitator out of the unit, get a rope that will slide up under the agitator. You will then use leverage to work your way around the agitator and pop it off. There is an agitator bell under it that it clips to.

Wes for Model Number WDSR2080D5WW

I noticed some 'play' and 'wabble' in my GE washing machine's agitator. I bought a new agitator coupler and replaced it, but I still notice a little bit of a 'wabble' when I grab the top of the agitator and move it manually and it still has a small amount of spin 'play' to it in both directions. I can also lift the agitator up a bit. Before replacing the agitator coupler, I could move the agitator up from the base around an inch. With the new coupler, it seems to fit a bit more snug, but I can still pick it up from the base around a half an inch. Is this type of agitator supposed to fit totally snug against the bottom or is there supposed to be a small amount of 'play'?

Wes, You will want to double check to make sure that the agitator coupler is not moving up and down. If it is moving up and down on the shaft then you would want to make sure that the agitator coupler is fully tightened. Also make sure that the drive shaft is not moving up and down then the issue would be a faulty transmission.

Ed, In order to get the agitator to sit down you would have to hit the top of it or push down hard until it clips into place. You will hear a snap when locked in place.

Hi. Remove the agitator and under it is a agitator coupling kit. This is the large plastic piece that goes in between the transmission shaft and bottom of the agitator. Many times it will break away and not hold the agitator tight for proper performance. It is part # WH49X10042. Thank You.
