For Ge Oven Bake Element (Part Number: OEM6093018)

Lisa for Model Number JTP48SFSS GE Double oven

Our oven's heating element blew up today in a quite dramatic & scary way. Huge arc & sparks & shooting flames. Tripped the circuit breaker. It was real loud. I had the door open but luckily for me I was turning away & hearing it ran the other way. My husband was facing it & saw it I just saw bright light. So... now we are replacing all the elements. Since it's 7 to 8 years old. Question 1 are the broiler element & bake element the same part? I don't see a dedicated bake element part or broiler element part. Are these the right ones for my oven? And, do the elements usually burn out in such a display? It could have been bad if I'd been holding a heavy pot of hot food when that happened. Should I contact the folks at GE? I now have read blogs that say they really don't care. After flipping the breaker back on (definitely keeping the spark-alater oven off) the circuit board & other oven work fine. Please advise. Thank you Lisa T.

Hello Lisa. No, the broil element WB44T10043 is in the top of the oven and the bake element WB44T10018 is in the bottom of the unit. It is normal for the elements to burn up in all ovens and they can get very bright and scary at times. Hope this helps.

Hello Xam. The wires going to the bake element WB44T10018 pull off the terminals. They are not soldered on the unit. Hope this helps.

Hi Rita. Are there any fault codes? Have you changed the type of baking pan? Your best bet is the shelf centered in the oven, with silver colered baking pans. The unit will use the broil element with the bake cycle approx. 40% of the time to keep the center of the cavity evenly heated. The bake element is part # WB44T10018. I would change this if you are not getting any fault codes. Thank you.
