Melissa for Model Number PSS26NSTA SS

I have the GE Smart Water Filter MWF. I try to replace my filter every six months or so. I have purchased generic filters the last few times and they worked great. However, this last time when I replaced the filter I had problems. The first one I tried made alot of noise and overflowed into my refrigerator. I think there was a black ring I needed to insert. I did that and then the water dribbled out. So I tried another one since I had purchased a two pack. That one did the same thing. The manufacturer sent me a new one thinking I had received a defective lot. That didn't work either. I sent them all back for a refund. I purchased a different brand. This one installed okay without any noise but the water still came out slowly. I forgot to mention that after every faulty filter that I put my old filter in and it worked perfectly. So out of frustration I also tried installing the bypass I have. When I put that in, no water came out at all. I am stumped as to what the problem is. I am wanting to purchase the filter made by GE at this point but am concerned that they may not work either. Please advise.

Melissa, With the filter bypass installed the water should work with no problem and if it does not then the issue would be caused by a faulty filter head assembly WR02X45206.

Joe, You will want to make sure that the water valve is getting power but it sounds like the filter head may be bad and need to be replaced. If you take the filter out and install the filter bypass and try to dispense water. If the unit does not dispenser then the filter head is bad.

Elaine, Unfortunately we do not have any information on these units, but you will want to check to make sure that the condenser fan, if equipped is working to cool the compressor. If the fan is not operational then you will want to check power to the fan and if there is power then replace the fan.

Hello Leonard! Unfortunately, we do not have a listing of a FOSVF part number. I've found FQSVF however, it is discontinued and no longer available with our company. Sorry about that!

Holly J.

I have the GE Smart Water Filter Model MWF. The orange indicator light came on the door and my husband went an bought a replacement. This is the second time we have replaced the filter. He filled it with water as the instructions said and lined up the arrows and twisted. Then there was a humming and/or grinding noise. He went to start filling the two gallons and it made that noise again and then the water flow out of the dispenser dropped to a dribble. So he reinstalled the old filter in the same manner. Totally fine. Tried the new one. Same noise and water pressure drop. Back and forth five or six times. Same results. I tried it. Same results. Installing the old one: no noise and proper water pressure. Called GE support, they suggested soaking the filter overnight in water to get any air out. Tried that. Per GE's recommendations, when that didn't work we should consider it a bad part and exchange it at the store. Ok, new, new filter. Got home, filled it with water, installed it and... noise and low water pressure. Put the old one back in. No noise proper water pressure. How is it that the old one works fine, but neither of the new ones work? What are we doing wrong?

Hello Holly, You are probably not doing anything wrong. The manufacturer most likely had a production problem during the run of filters you are getting. I would probably get a refund on the filter and purchase one else where, (like appliancepartspros.com), to try to get a filter that wasn't made in that "run" of parts.
