Questions & Answers

For Ge Refrigerator Water Filter (Part Number: OEM17364564)

1 Answer

Lavonne, The water should stop flowing when the filter is removed and if it is not then the filter head seal is bad. The 2 things that you could do is replace the filter head or pull the unit out and shut the water off to the unit before replacing the filter.

Joe, The ice and water for the unit does pass through the filter and either the filter itself is faulty and would need to be replaced or the issue will be the filter head assembly. You would want to insert a bypass plug into the filter head and check to see if you are still getting the same noise. If not then the filter is faulty and if it is still making the noise then the issue would be the filter head assembly.

Sarah, If you get the water filter fully seated and it is spraying out of the top then the issue would be a bad seal on the water filter head. If you only put it at halfway then there is a chance for it to spray out. The pressure is built up because the pressure from the air that is not in the line has not been relieved and in order to relieve this air pressure you would need to run the dispenser and purge approximately 4 gallons of water through the dispenser.

Hello Darrell, If the water Filter Housing WR02X45206 is leaking, it will have to be replaced. No other component on the unit can "cause" it to leak. You will need to set the freezer to a warmer setting and the fresh food side COLDER. This increases air flow, reducing the possibility of freezing.

Noice, Even though water is dispensing the filter could be a issue but only if it is causing low water pressure. The things that you will want to check are the fill tube to make sure that it is not frozen. If the water fill tube is frozen it would be caused by a faulty water valve. If the fill tube is not frozen then you will want to check to see if the water valve is getting power to it when the icemaker calls for water if there is power then the valve is faulty and if no then the icemaker is most likely the issue.

I have replaced my water filter in my refigerator several times before with no issues. This time when attaching the new MWF filter there was a grinding/rattling noise and then it stopped. However, I can no longer dispense water. I removed the new filter and attached the old one and it works again. This is the second one of the new MWF model filters thast I have tried and same result. The Smart Water filters worked with no issue (as stated before the old one still does). What is the solution?

1 Answer

William, At lot of times the reason for the water filter not working is due to the filter not going enough to engage the plungers to allow the water to flow. In most cases it has to do with the filter itself but in some cases could be filter head that is causing the issue. It would be recommended to try another filter but if still having the issue would recommend replacing the filter head.

Hello Mindy. I do apologize but the manufacturer is not providing us with that information.

Hello Lori, You have to dispense water for several minutes before the filter fills completely and the water is allowed to actually be dispensed. If you have doe this, the fresh food compartment may be too cold and the water tank can be frozen. Holding a hair dryer toward it for about 15 minutes will thaw it out if this is the case. It is located behind the drawers in the bottom of the fresh food compartment.
