The Temperature Sensor is an OEM part for GE ovens. It plays a role in monitoring and regulating the oven's internal temperature, ensuring accurate heating and cooking performance. This sensor works by detecting the temperature inside the oven cavity and communicating with the main control board to maintain the set temperature throughout the cooking process.

Causes of a bad Temperature Sensor can include exposure to extreme temperatures leading to sensor failure, wear and tear over time, or damage from oven cleaning agents or spills that may affect its functionality.

Symptoms of a bad Temperature Sensor include:

  • Oven not reaching the set temperature.
  • Overheating or underheating, leading to unevenly cooked food.
  • Frequent error messages from the oven's electronic control.

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Ge Temperature Sensor (Part Number: OEM9563958)

Hello Andy, It is not recommended to replace a long sensor with a short one. The different length may cause a temperature variance that affects recipes.

Patricia, If the button on the control panel has pushed back in then the control panel WB36T10496 would need to be replaced. If this panel is damaged then it could affect the self clean portion of the unit.

Hello Paul, The sensor you were viewing is only about 6 inches long. The age of your unit indicates it would more likely need the thermostat with the capillary and bulb for temperature control. I'm sorry but we cannot even check the archives without the model number since this is how the parts list will be pulled up. You may need to remove the old one and carry it to an appliance repair parts company to match the part up with a satisfactory replacement.

Js for Model Number JSP42BK3BB

I have a GE electric stove model JSP42BK3BB, I recently noticed that the display on oven started pre heating very fast (set oven to 300 and display said it was there within 4 minutes). I noticed the bake element does go on and off during pre heating, should it stay on constantly? The broil element does come on when set to broil. I replaced the sensor but the display still indicates it is pre heated to set temperature within minutes. I put a thermometer inside the oven and it eventually showed temp approx. 25 degrees lower. Any ideas what could be causing this all of the sudden and also do you recommend a certain thermometer to test the oven temp? Thank you

Paul for Model Number JTP48CF3CC

The broiler element burned apart in the upper oven near the terminal ends of the element and near the temperature sensor. I replaced the element and now the oven heats up for a few minutes and then shuts off. It is not tripping the breaker. The display just reverts to the time of day and does not display any codes. It seems as if the oven temperature is above the programmed temperature when it shuts off. The lower oven works normally. Could the temperature sensor been damaged during the burn out of the original element or the relay board?

Paul, The oven sensor would most likely not be the cause for this issue. This issue with the unit bake shutting off would more likely be a control issue. If the entire unit shuts off and then powers back on then the issue could be that the cooling fan is not running. For this issue you would want to check thermal limiters to make sure that they are good.

Gale, You will want to check the oven sensor for resistance to make sure that it has 1090 ohms of resistance at room temp. If the resistance is out of tolerance then the sensor WB23T10015 would need to be replaced.

Hello Kim, F3 is the fault code for an open oven sensor. You should go to the control board, remove the connector to the temperature sensor, and test for 1100 ohms at room temperature. Be sure to tap on the sensor when performing the test. If it is bad, you will need to access the sensor connector at the back of the sensor and test again for the same value. If it is there, the harness has failed. If not, the sensor WB21X5301 has failed. If the sensor and harness test good, you will need to replace the control WB27K5140. The F2 fault code indicates an over-temperature condition. This was most likely caused by the previous condition. From the condition you described, it sounds like a harness or control issue.
